I am looking to upgrade my cpu if possible on the asrock p4vm800 motherboard and need recommendations to part
name and number that would work reliably and be compatible with my mother board.

Also in the subcatagory I am also looking to upgrade my agp graphics card, and a 3.3 volt cannot be used on this mother board.

Help please.

Thank you in advance.

A look at the above link will suggest you to not try and put any more cash in there.. Same case with the AGP video card scenario.. IMO, newer motherboards onboard graphics will give you better performance..

I don't understand the link, to see if I can even upgrade my cpu and leave the graphics card that is already on it alone.

In trying to understand, I seem to feel I can upgrade to 2.8 ghz cpu from a 1.8 ghz. Please tell me if I am wrong. Also if I can upgrade the cpu, what exactly would i be looking for to buy so it would be compatible with my mother board.

I am upgrading to 2ghz of ram shortly, as I only have a half a gig now and doing the best I can slowly as I am on a pension. Ha guys, I am not a techi and not a guy, but trying the best to do what I can on my own.
Thank you for any help.

You can upgrade your CPU with any of the Celeron or Celeron D CPU's on that link. Also, you can upgrade to P4, also on that link. When you are changing your CPU, make sure it is supported by the manufacturer. Changing the CPU has nothing to do with the graphics card, I would leave it alone for the moment. You can upgrade the RAM up to 2GB, do that first, you might see a big difference. What is your OS? I use the PV4 for my thin install server, it doesn't need a lot to work great. Hope this helps.

I have just upgraded the ram to 2gb pc2700 333 but I don't know exactly what cpu I can upgrade to safely, including the graphics card. It is only 8 mb. I presently have a 1.8ghz cpu, intel.

I have windows xp sp3.

Any help in advising what cpu and graphics card I can upgrade to, safely, hopefully without upgrading the bios would be appreciated.

Just trying to upgrade slowly until I can afford a new one, which is not in the near future.

Thank you

Ok, http://www.asrock.com/mb/cpu.asp?Model=P4VM800

go to that link and look at the CPU's on there listed for your motherboard. P4, Celeron D, Celeron are your only options. I did a quick google search for you and came up with a bunch of websites that are selling the P4 3.0ghz cpu.

Graphics cards can be found. I am assuming that you are not a gamer, a 256 card would be fine, here is the link.

Now, with this said, Why are you spending this kind of money into dead technology? What capabilities do you want your computer to do that it doesnt do now? You can get a started Windows 7 system for another hundred bucks.

Open box systems and refurbished items should be fine. You can upgrade your PV4 board, but why?

The thing I do not understand is if, I have to stick to the same amount of cache, which is presently
128 kb. on the present cpu that I have without having to update the bios, which I do not know anything about, and in particular not frying my mother board. I do not know the maximum cpu upgrade that I can to with safely.

why am I going this route, is that I want to get somewhat more speed in opening things up.

can't afford an updated computer yet, so making due by trying to upgrade slowly, preferrably with
good used parts.

Thank you for any help.

I understand the affordability issue. What exactly are you doing with your PC that it is so slow? Just because you can upgrade it doesnt mean that you should. If your PC is really that slow, do a complete reinstall and that should speed things up really fast. Other than that, the PV4 is a low-end board, and throwing money into something that is five year old technology is something you have to consider. If you want to go slow I suggest you save up until you have enough to get on-board with an entry level Windows 7 Home premium machine. If you look around sales time you can get a box around 300 bucks. Keep watching Tigerdirect.com for sales, subscribe to their emails, they will have something if you keep checking. But, if you are determined, check out these links.
