Question AsRock Rack Toasty FSC

I have an AsRock Rack B650D4U, and noticed in the IPMI web interface that when I load the CPU, the "FSC_INDEX" sensor value almost immediately skyrockets from <50C to >90C. Is this indicative of a problem? I'm not sure where this hardware is physically located on the board, but the whole thing is getting good air flow. Thanks.

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Include PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, refurbished, used)?

Disk drive(s): make, model, capacity, how full?

Take a couple of photographs showing the full inside of the case.

Post the photographs here via imgur (www.imgur.com).

  • Arch main OS, Win 11 aux.
  • 2TB WD SN850X and 1TB SN850, respectively.
  • 7950X3D
  • 2x Micron MTC20C2085S1EC48BA1
  • Corsair SF1000L, brand new. Have used an SF750 in this system, too.
  • Radeon Pro W7800
  • Sonnet USB3-4PM-E and Mellanox MCX311A-XCAT
The Front Side Controller is not part of the CPU. I believe it's either part of the B650 chipset or possibly the controller labeled "Super I/O" on page 9 of the board layout diagram: https://download.asrock.com/Manual/B650D4U.pdf. The "Super I/O" chip is not heatsinked.

I just switched this system from a 240 AIO to air. When testing CPU temps in the past, I am fairly certain the FSC was not getting nearly as hot. It jumps up from ~50 to 90+ almost immediately when putting a load on the CPU. Trying to figure out if this is normal or if it's a ticking time bomb. May need to contact AsRock Rack support.

Just sharing for anyone who may come across this searching FSC_INDEX, it's apparently a fan speed sensor that reports in degrees instead of a percentage. Water cooler fan speed for example so 90*C is 90% speed.
