I have a Asrock X370 Pro4 (fully updated BIOS) that I want to expand my storage space on. The motherboard has two m.2 slots and I am using one of them as my OS drive (M2_1). Then I tried installing the Samsung 990 Pro in the M2_2 slot but the system will not detect it. I know its not the drive because I placed it inside another system and it initialized and formatted just fine. In case its relevant the CPU is Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz.

I know that M2_2 and SATA3_3 uses the same pathways so I made sure not to plug anything into SATA3_3. In desperation I even tired using a PCIe adapter card but it still would not detect it. According to pcpartspicker.com this motherboard and NVME SSD should be compatible. I don't know if its a BIOS setting or something else but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, because it says so on the tin:
1 x M.2 Socket (M2_2), supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280/22110 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module
Source: MoBo specs: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X370 Pro4/#Specification

Meaning, that in M2_2 slot, only AHCI M.2 drives work. NVMe drives will not, which 990 Pro is.

What does work in M2_2 slot, are any of these,

So, if you want more storage, get M.2 AHCI drive.
