So I just built a new computer.

It has a i7-6700k and a Asrock Z170M Extreme 4. Now I am not overclocking it as for my needs the 4.0ghz speed is more than enough, however I have noticed under load my CPU Voltage is hitting 1.40 volts maximum with a maximum temp of 63c(I have a Hyper 212 Evo Cooler).

I'm not sure what is causing this as I have my BIOS EUFI settings on default.

Hopefully someone here can help me figure out why the Voltage is hitting so high.

Solution

ROFL! The voltage is not controlled by the thermal paste.

1.40 is the highest I've heard of, but 6700K's routinely take 1.32-1.37 when they turbo at stock settings. Each chip has a different pre-set VID, and yours is probably at the high end of normal. Software readings can also be a bit inaccurate. I wouldn't worry about it, since Skylake has a higher nominal operating voltage than Haswell or even Sandy Bridge.
