Hello!
First time posting here.
My wife has an i9-9900k cpu paired with an ASRock z390m mobo. For now, she uses 32gb but would like to upgrade to 64gb. The official ASRock page online says 64gb, but the online manual, Amazon, and Newegg specifications state 32gb maximum ram.

Does anybody know if it actually is compatible with 64gb ram? Is there a way we can find out with her system settings?

Also, I know that the z390m throttles her CPU to around 3.7ghz instead of the 5ghz stock speed. I wasn't aware of that when I built the PC for her though as I'm a bit of a noob still. I just tried to put together a decent itx PC for her. (she works with after effects and cinema 4D).
(I also sent an email to ASRock on Thursday but still haven't received an answer back)

Any help is appreciated!

Solution
No problems at all. Finding MCE should be straightforward as it is in the OC Tweaker Screen of the BIOS. Section 4.5 of the English online Manual. You should just be able to set MCE to enabled.

Once you have enabled MCE just keep an eye on temps under load as the 9900K will boost to max! For normal workloads temps should be more than fine.

To enable MCE do I have to go into the bios? Is it an easy setting to find?

Again, thank you so much for your help! I was pulling my hair out over here because I bought two ram sticks for my wife as a surprise for her birthday and didn't want them to get here and not work haha.
I think I got her 3000mhz sticks
Yes the ASRock Z390M does support 64GB in 2 x 32GB sticks (double checked on the specs page for her motherboard so no issues). If she is getting new ram go for DDR4 3600 RAM as that is a good speed and is fairly cost effective....Also what speed is the RAM she currently has rated at for speed? and have you enabled the XMP profile in the BIOS for the RAM to run at that speed?

As to boosting behaviour of the 9900K, it would be good to understand the case, CPU cooler, PSU that she has as well as cooling makes a difference on boost behaviour.

Also in BIOS turn on Multi-Core Enhancement if running at stock to allow for max performance though cooling will also dictate performance.

Thanks for your quick response!
Her ram at the moment is 2666mhz. I don't think we enabled xmp, because it wasn't necessary for her current ram.
The case is a thermal take core v21 https://www.thermaltake.com/core-v21.html

The cooler is this noctua - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0065SFEE8?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1

The PSU ( 750 G3, 80 Plus Gold 750W - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005BE058W?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1

Oh I didn't know about multi code enhancement. I'll check it out. Her CPU, even under stress, never goes above 50 degrees Celsius. I don't think there'll be an issue, at least I hope

So, about the ram again, do you have any idea why the manual says the maximum ram is 32gb, but the page says 64gb? Is it common for there to be discrepancies like this?

So your using the itx board.

I think the RAM listing is just a discrepancy as the new 32GB RAM sticks were only just launching at that time and were slightly different but now you should have no issues and fingers crossed ASRock should get back to you but something like these sticks should work no problems at all:

As to cooling, your setup is actually good especially for an ITX build. Airflow is key and it looks good on that front with temps in the right place. Double check to make sure you have MCE enabled to allow for max boost and the 9900K should go higher but there will be a cap at some point temp dependant on work loads.

Awesome! Will do that today then
Thanks very much! You don't know how much stress you've saved me from
