Hello everyone,

My computer is powering on and all the fans/leds are running, but my monitor is not receiving any input. This happened all of a sudden when I was at a lan center. My motherboard is now giving me the error code d6.

Here are my specs:

ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155
Intel Core I5-3570K
G.SKILL 8GB (4GB x 2) DDR3
GeForce GTX 580

It should be noted that I built this computer in 2012 and it had been running fine up until about a month ago. I had to replace my PSU and everything was running smoothly until my PC just turned off inexplicably and stopped booting into the display. I've tried using onboard graphics, making sure all my PSU connections are firmly in place, making sure my monitor is working, taking the RAM out one at a time, pressing the red clr cmos button on the side of my motherboard, taking the cmos battery out and putting it back in after 4 minutes, nothing worked. Help!

I have a Corsair RM 650 Watt PSU. It's about 2 years old, my friend gave it to me after I told him I needed a new one.

I should mention that the error code has now changed to 64. When I seat my GPU, the error code changes back to d6. My keyboard turns on, my phone charges and my mouse lights up. I just can't get anything to display on my monitor. I was wondering if the PC was booting but not displaying, so I plugged in my speakers and tried hitting enter a few times on my keyboard to see if I can hear windows starting, but nothing.

Just a tip, orginizing your cables helps with airflow, so all your stuff can stay cool and last longer :)

As for the problem, I can't really see everything from that angle, but make sure your graphics card's power connectors are plugged in. I think that GPU requires 2 6 pin power connectors, but since you built your PC you probably know that :)

Also try clearing the CMOS, to reset everything in the BIOS back to factory settings (I assume you know how to do this, if you don't Ill help you :) )

I've tried clearing the CMOS both with the reset button on the back of my case and by removing the battery, waiting and then resetting it. Nothing happened. Is it possible that my problem could be caused by having a faulty battery? As for the GPU, the connectors are securely plugged in. The fact that I can't get a display on my monitor while using the onboard graphics makes me think it's more likely to be a motherboard problem than a GPU one.

Yes that is most likely, okay, try booting only with one stick of RAM, if that doesn't work remove everything completely except the CPU and the CPU fan, and of course the PSU, the motherboard should give a series of beeps to indicate memory problems etc, if it does NOT give those error's there is most likely problem with the motherboard, and just to be extra certain remove the motherboard from the case and do a breadboard (this is where you eliminate all the problem of a short in the case)

how to do a breadboard (make sure it is on a insulated surface):

If all else fails, try this troubleshooting guide:

Ok, so first of all my mobo uses an led display to show error codes, not beeps. There is no speaker on my mobo. When I removed everything including the RAM, I get error code 53 which means no usable memory detected. That is a good sign right? It means my motherboard recognized that I removed the RAM. I still get no display on my monitor. I put the RAM back in and I still get error code d6 which means "no console output device". What does that mean? I've tried plugging my monitor into the onboard graphics slot, and both slots on my GPU.

Ok, I removed the video card, reset the CMOS and then plugged my monitor onto the back port of the motherboard. Nothing happened. I tried reseating the video card and plugged my monitor into that. I tried both ports on my video card. Nothing. I'm having the same error: d6, which means "no console output device".
