Mobo: New Asrock Z790 Steel Legend WiFi
CPU: i7-14700K,
RAM: Kingston Fury Beast KF556C40BBK4-128

After installing, the DRAM Post Status Check indicator stays lit. The CPU one turns off.
The PC does not display anything on the display port connector, nor does it make any sound.

I took out 3 RAM sticks, and left the one in slot B2 (same result), same result for all other slots . Using the 3 other sticks also doesn't change anything.

So, my guess is that the BIOS needs updating but how does one update a bios with no video output? I don't have access to other ddr5 RAM, nor do i have access to another socket 1700 CPU...

What to do?

BIOS flashback. You can update the BIOS without even turning the machine on.

ASRock's guide to it is here. In a nutshell the motherboard has enough function to update itself without even having a CPU or RAM installed if necessary.

To cover a couple of things I wish I knew before trying this; make sure it's the only file on the USB stick, and the flashing light should take multiple minutes (it took ~5 minutes on my MSI board yesterday).

To the best of my knowledge, this motherboard does not support BIOS Flashback :| The Z690 does... but i have the Z790. Unless I'm missing something...?

I succeeded!

So here is what to do:

Place ONE DRAMM in slot B2 (though I guess other slots might work as well, this is the one specified in the manual)
Install the 14th gen CPU + CPU cooler
DO NOT install M.2 or other stuff in the motherboard (I actually had the M.2 PCI 5 slot in use... as well as one M.2 PCI 4 slot)
Connect the power supply to the motherboard and the CPU connectors.

Now connect the displayport or HDMI port and turn on the system after starting wait for at least 2 minutes. The display should now work!

It is thus possible to update the BIOS without additional hardware!

Put in one RAM, and a CPU. Then just boot the PC with monitor attached and keyboard. Boot can take a few minutes(!) so be patient.... then just go into bios and flash the normal way.
If you dont have iGPU (aka you have a K version of intel) then you're screwed (as in, you cant flash it youself).

If for whatever reason the flashing doesn't work, make a support ticket with Asrock. They actually offered me to flash the Biod for me! All i had to do was send the mobo. But luckly i got it working before that.
