Asrock z87 Extreme 4 with i5 4690k

I've recently got the Asrock z87 extreme 4 and I'm getting the CPU i5 4690k. I've found that the bios version must be p2.70 in order to work with the 4690k. Could you please explain to me how is that?

Hi, newer CPUs require a newer BIOS version, in order to be supported by boards that were released before. What's the board's BIOS version (Px.xx)? http://www.asrock.com/support/images/FindBIOS-1.jpg

sad thing is with all my asrock board [or any brand at that ] I get like from newegg all came in with first release bios on them so if yours does as well with that refresh chip or any chip that needs a higher bios you may find yourself stuck or looking to get a chip to boot on in order to flash to the bios you need to support the chip you wanted to use

I learned to buy a chip that's supported under ''ALL'' bios's when I order a new board [most times what the best in that like a 4670 instead of the 4690] opinion

So I have to find another CPU to update the bios version of the motherboard then I can put the Refresh CPU?

if it don't post you will then if it was enugh to display bios to flash can you trust that to be stable do a flash [ flashing is a lot of risk when things are working correctly]

if me I would just go with the 4670 - that's what I got on this z87 extreme 6

what do you really gain or loose ??

look here at newegg and the boards birds eye view [magnified larger to see better ] look around the sata ports and the motherboard battery you see 2 white with black lettering stickers that have the factory shipped bios revision printed on them -- your board should have this as well

asrock is nice enough to do this so theres no guess work of what you got to start with and mistakes trying to guess
