Hello Tom's Hardware community,

I recently purchased an ASRock Z97 Extreme4 motherboard and noticed a couple buttons on it that I'm unfamiliar with (I'm no expert with motherboards to begin with either).

Any ideas what these Power and Reset buttons do?

Here is a link to the motherboard's page on the company website:

As a side note, I purchased all brand new parts to build a custom PC and after putting everything together, the system won't boot up. I've tried a few different troubleshooting methods and still no luck. I'm worried that the motherboard may be DOA although I'm hoping that understanding these Power and Reset buttons could be a solution.

Thanks!

Manuals, read them (page 26) - ftp://66.226.78.21/manual/Z97%20Extreme4.pdf

Those buttons do exactly what they're labeled as - if your system needs to be shut down or reset quickly, you press those buttons.

As for not booting properly, read this - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

Do those steps and then come back if you've done all of them and you still can't boot.

And when he says post your specs he means post ALL the components you're using for your computer.

@ThatVietGuy: Thank you for the clarification. Sadly, I've gone through that article by shortstuff_mt and am still stuck.

@alexoiu: Just gave that a try and still no response from the system. The BIOS sticker shows P1.30.

@ThatVietGuy: Nothing happens when turning on the PSU -- no lights of any kind. Nothing turns on.

Alright guys, looks like this post is closed. I'm determining that the motherboard is dead. I've ran several troubleshoots with two different PSU's as well as ensuring both PSU's work with another system.

Thank you all for your help!
