Assassins Creed IV Black Flag, How much FPS are you getting?

There is a fix for the Vysnc that allows you to go past 45fps. its on the steam forums somwhere can't remember

It's not poorly optimized. Nore can the 760 top it off. In BF3 the 760 does an average of 45fps. So 45fps AVG is pretty normal for you card in AC4

If I were you I'd just wait till proper drivers are released for the game.

I'm ussing a 5770 a card from 2009, doing 25-30fps and you know what I don't see a problem with it as long as I can play. It's not like this is an fps or something

Regarding the fix on Steam I'll check it out but this is a Uplay game, not Steam. Besides, I'm not stuck at 45FPS. I'm *capped* at ~60.

That said, your logic is flawed. What you've done is commit a logical fallacy: "If game A gets X number of FPS on your system, then so will game B".

These games use two completely different engines, not to mention BF4 is AMD-optimized while ACIV is Nvidia-optimized.

There a hundreds of reasons this is an apples-to-oranges comparison, but I'm not going to bother going deeper if you don't understand this.

The comparison I made to BF4 was simply that the game is GPU-intensive and yet my system does fine. There's really no explanation (like Nvidia has given with their latest driver notes for ACIV) why a 780Ti should only get ~50FPS for some people.

I have found a solution for those with screen tearing.

Uniboft had acknowledged that this game is capped at 62.5 FPS. Right now, I haven't been able to bypass this without a driver mod that is not stable.

To fix screen tearing, you have to get the game to think you have a higher refresh rate than 60Hz and disable Vsync.

To do so, use the Assassins4.ini file found under the game directory in your Documents folder. Edit using Notepad or another doc editor and change your RefreshRate= and DisplayableRefreshRate= settings to any value above 60 (75 works for me)...63 should be fine. Make sure the Vsync= value is 0. Save the file and start the game.

You should see the FPS locked at ~60 and no screen tearing.

The game doesn't seem to sync well with refresh rates without Vsync and Vsync results in any frame rate below ~58 dropping to 1/2 the refresh rate.

I'm now playing at a solid 61FPS, no Vsync, pretty much maxed, 2x MSAA, Very High/High settings.

Ahh there we go. I knew the game was optimized badly, just screen res problems that's all 😀 glad to know ill try this see if I can pull a bit more fps out of my game

I'm reading too much bullshit.

The game IS a port, and the game is not very well optimized.

It's been made for PS4. It runs at 1080p with high PC settings in a 7850 and a8 core at 1.6ghz at max load.

in my system. (FX 8320@4.2ghz + 270x , like a 7870ghz) runs with some better AO and AA, some better FPS in the sea, BUT if i turn on the SOFT shadows the frames drop 5 fps. The detail quality (draw distance) also play a big rol, 2- 3 fps. The rest of the settings doesn't change almost anything.

This say that the game is being made for a PS4 system but since the PC is a similar system it works "fine". But the FX8320 is only using 6 cores at 50% each one. THAT is the "problem".

So, the game runs fine, not perfect, needs a patch, is a port , but all games are being ports in this gen, just good ports because the new consoles are working with the same architecture like the PC does.

EDIT: The game was developed for x360, ps3 and wii u, so yep, it's a port and the AC5 will be totally next gen and so much better, but it's working just fine for now.

Graphics are awesome, the foliage and the sea, are amazing.

That didn't work for me.. I could comfortably increase settings after disabling vsync but tearing persisted and refresh rate would automatically go back to 60 on the ini

lol... Pleease do your research man... The PC version is not a port. The PS4 and XB1 version are a port of the PC version. The X360,ps3 and wii u were all developed separately and in no way correspond with the PC version.

Take a look at this: http://blog.ubi.com/assassins-creed-iv-black-flag-pc-optimization/

"We have a team in Keiv dedicated just to the PC version"

enough proof that your the one spouting BS

Lock the file, prevent it from being edited as to stop the game from editing the .ini

Forgive my ignorance.. but how? 😛

Good call. I didn't actually do this, but it's a good idea. I found that once you edit the ini, if you change other settings, it sometimes reverts back to the stock settings in the ini, too.

There's also an XML in the same folder. You can define custom resolution selections here that will appear in the graphics menu, but this one overwrites *every* time. I'll lock it and see if I can actually get the game to run @75FPS because I have my monitor OC'd from 60 to 75Hz. It'd be nice to see 75 smooth.

To lock the file, right click on it and select properties.
Under the "General" tab, next to Attributes, select the "Read Only" box. Apply & OK

Here are my specs:

Proc: i7 - 4770K stock clocks
GPU: MSI 760 Hawk Edition with latest drivers from NVIDIA at stock clocks
RAM: 16 GB Corsair Vengence
System Drive: Samsung 840 SSD - 120 GB
Second HD. WD Caviar Black - 1 TB
PSU - 550W - I think this be my bottleneck.

Either way - playing at the settings recommended by NVIDIA on their sites. Originally the game would run at 45-50 fps, but now I am never seeing it go above 30 and if I set the shadows to soft-low it drops down to 20 or below during ship boarding. Temps on the processor and gpu never reach above 65C.

d3doverrider.. it solves screen tearing when you turn off vsync which helps fps rates... I'm getting 40 stable fps except in very lush areas it goes to mid 30s on a 760 as well with all settings maxed out except God rays (low) and anti aliasing at txaa 2s

something on your rig is bottlenecking you or maybe turn of Vsync. You should be getting 40-60fps +

Do you play the game?
Even the 780ti cant get 60 fps.
And thats with god rays to off.

Yes I've played the game and managed 40-60fps using a 5770 on low. I'm quite sure an R9 290 could do the same on ultra given that you either turn of Vsync or use the Vsync fix. Or you could just turn off AA

btw don't start old topics

nice advice Vsinc Off helps a lot also if you choose fxaa it will go 45-55fps, and you can eliminate screen tearing with Cataclys Control Center, "vsync always On", Open GL, " tripple Buffering"

Has anyone found a way to bypass the 60FPS cap?

I have ONCE, just ONE TIME been able to force it to run at 75FPS but for the life of me, I can't figure out what setting made it happen.

I have absolutely no trouble GPU-wise with going far above 60FPS; this game has a CAP; I want to change the cap to something higher than 60FPS. I now have 2x SLI GTX770 4GB and a 144Hz Asus monitor. 60FPS doesn't cut it.

To bypass crappy 30fps vsync, while in game, press ALT-CTRL-DEL (not!! ALT-TAB) for the game to minimize and then restore it. Ta dah.

I don't know what kind of crack you're smoking but V-sync locks to refresh rate; this means it's actually 60FPS if you're on a 60Hz monitor (no one is on a 30Hz monitor) and alt-Tab won't do anything for you.

If alt-Tab *does* do something for you, it means you've selected the wrong refresh rate in the game settings, but again, this doesn't make sense because 30Hz wouldn't be an available refresh rate, even in-game.

Last, this game is *locked* at 60FPS; so far, no one has found a way to bypass this. And coincidentally, I've alt-Tabbed many times out of this game. It didn't to anything except send me to the desktop and back.

Mr Smart Ass,

thank you for your comment. I will just make known to you some facts about the game and how nvidia handles it.

If you have vsync enabled and the cpu/gpu etc can't keep up with 60 fps, then it will drop to 30 (that's like... half...). Not 55, or 50, or 40, but 30!!! Which sucks. I think it's because of lack of triple buffering. So there are two ways to bypass this.

First is to use adaptive vsync from nvidia control panel AND d3doverrider ....
The second is to CTRL-ALT-DEL and NOT ALT-TAB. I'll say it again. Not by pressing ALT-TAB which doesn't do anything, but with Ctrl-Alt-Del.

Thank you...

PS. Like you said... the game is locked in 60 fps... then it goes to 30... then maybe at 15.... so that's the problem. That it wants to "lock".

PS2. No smoking crack here.
