Ubisoft engine gets optimized for multicore CPU and large VRAM blocks - not surprisingly, since that is the way consoles are heading. Hence, the i7 recommendation for its 8 threads. The NVidia GTX970 recommendation is a joke - game engine will choke on 3.5 GB ram, but Ubisoft is in bed with NVidia.

I can't believe I just bought a gtx 960 strix in February and I can't play a new game in Full HD the SAME YEAR! ...

There were voices against buying the 960 when it came out, me included. Looked like way too much of a step down from the 970 at the time, especially on the VRAM side.
