Ive been here for almost a year now and it makes me sick that you cant get a straight answer to a question. It hasnt always been like this. The ASUS board is the best IMO. Not only out of those three but out of any of the 775 boards. Good luck and keep me posted on your progress.

They do work with the single core CPU's. I know it sounds crazy but the 925XE boards will use single but wont use double while the 955 boards do allow both.

This guy didnt come here looking for a flamewar. Wusy started one and wouldnt leave the guy alone until he finally had enough. Now you pick up and flame bait the issue more. If this place has come down to being no better than this lets just put an end to it now. If everyone has there mind made up that they are to focking good to talk about or give advice about Intel then lets get it out in the open and I will damn sure leave and yall can suggest to Fredi that anyone that mentions INTEL should be banned.

Sorry but i just didn't read all the posts. :frown:

I just tought that Wusy needed some help on his fight for the truth..

Why the "I already know what you're going to say?" Read up a bunch of threads.... because this board is AMD biased. That's why. Don't bother me with ignorant posts, look at actual numbers. Look at numbers on this site like the ones that I posted earlier. There are plenty of situations where an Intel chip will beat out an AMD chip. But why am I bothering to explain myself to you, you're obviously an AMD fan or you wouldn't have made the inane comment to my post. 100% of the weaknesses? Right. I think the only weakness here is people's inability to be objective. I'll consider an AMD, but I wouldn't say it's the end-all be-all like alot of people here would (not everyone mind you, but the majority).

WOW! Thank you! Like I said in my previous post, there are a *few* here who actually have an open mind and don't scream "Down with Intel, AMD4lyfe11!!!oneoneone11!!11." I will check the ASUS boards, as well as other sites, because you are absolutely right, you can't get a simple clear cut answer to your questions here unless it falls into the AMD r0xx0rs category. 🙁

Thanks. I will take a look. If this board is any indication, it doesn't look like I'm going to get an honest answer, though. I hate to tell you. It looks like AMD all the way for THG, right, wrong, or indifferent. 🙁

From the boards you posted I'll get the ASUS.
Not everybody here is just fixed on AMD. I think Pentium is fine I just don't like that It's more expensive to begin with and then every time you upgrade is a new mobo. At least my S939 will let me upgrade to double core with a BIOS upgrade.
But once again from those boards I think ASUS is the best.

Ive got an ASUS P5AD2-E-Premium and have a P5WD2 on the way. My E Premium is a well built and feature rich board. The one that you are considering is the same or a bit better quality. They arent cheap, but you get what you pay for with these setups. My board has been through more in 4 or 5 months than most boards will see in 8 years. Every component that can be over volted and over heated gets it on a regular basis.

Thanks for the help! Yes, very similar to the board I was looking at. I've always had bad experiences with Asus boards, but that was from years ago (I stayed away with a bitter taste in my mouth for many years - damn SiS chipsets sucked in early P4s). But it seems they've gotten much better in recent years. I just may go with that one.

I really do like the Asus. I was leaning towards the Diamond board because of the Creative Audio chipset. Then again if I get the Asus and just throw a $100 Audigy ZS II in, it amounts to the same thing 😛 I think a separate soundcard is always better than onboard anyway. I did like some of the Asus's BIOS features, and I heard the Diamond board had "hidden" BIOS features that were great - once you found them. I might be leaning back towards the Asus again 😛 Thanks for the assistance :)

Look at these two and tell me if you see more than one difference. <A HREF="http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=247007" target="_new">http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=247007</A> and <A HREF="http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=247003" target="_new">http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=247003</A>

The more I read about the Asus board, the more I like it best, I think. I read a great write-up on it, and they said you can OC the shyte out of everything in the BIOS, and just to stay away from the PEG settings I think it was called? Otherwise, it was stable and performed perfectly. I'm not crazy about the older style audio chipset, but that's what PCI soundcards are for. It seems like everything else on the board is top notch. I'm thinking I might throw a higher CS P4 in for now and go P-D when they drop a bit. Anyone know if it'll support them? Maybe I'll give a phone over to Asus tomorrow and see.

The Pentium D price is what Intel is betting the farm on.

The reason that I was asking is because I wanted to make sure that the only diff is that High def TV crap. I ordered the $229.00 version and then realized that there was a $280.00 version. Look again and make sure, I just want to make sure that im not losing anything other than that tv wifi crap.

Yea newegg had the 2.8 for around $300. If you overclock it to 3.2, it will compete with the other Intel chips of that clockspeed for single threaded apps (games mostly). And being dual core, it will take advantage of multi-threaded apps and/or multi-tasking.

185 from a company I've never heard of was the cheapest price on PriceWatch. Great price and free shipping. I don't know about this company though

That's true. Well their price is pretty cheap and Pricewatch gave them 3/5 stars. Do you know how to actually check the reviews on that site?

ah cool thanks. Hmmm that company isn't there today. And they had 3/5 stars. Hope they weren't a fly-by-night operation. Lowest price now is still around $300

I don't remember what the name of that particular company was. When I tried to verify the price by clicking on the buy link off of pricewatch, it never loaded up. Does pricewatch remove a company that day if the website is down? Hmm.. I'll keep searching. Do you think the Extreme Edition is any good? The 2.8 D is a reasonable price. The 3.2 is a little high (around $650), the EE is ridiculous - $1100.

I think that the 840 is the only EE offered. Pricing at ZipZoomFly-
840 EE= $1000
840 D = $613
830 D = $380
820 D = $280

Big price differences on the D series.

So far Intel has release 3 dualcore chips (4 if you count the EE one). They are the 820, the 830, the 840, and the 840EE. The only differences are the clock speed, HT support and EE. Basically it runs like this:

820 2.8 GHz operating frequency
830 3.0 GHz operating frequency
840 3.2 GHz operating frequency
840 EE 3.2 GHz operating frequency; HT support

So only the 840 EE has the HT support, all of them have EM64T support. The price range is somewhere around:

820 - $285
830 - $399
840 - $649
840EE - $1155

The 820 is a reasonable price, but single threaded applications will suffer because of the slower clockspeed. Multi-tasking works pretty damn good from what I hear, though. Good entry-level chip for a foray into the dualcore realm. The 830 would be your average chip, and the 840 would be your high-end chip. The 840EE I would think would only be for the enthusiast as it's priced at the top of the scale. My only problem is that only the EE has HT support, and even though all of them have EM64T support, I am not touching XP 64 for a long time because I'm sure it'll break most of my software and/or drivers. I could OC the 820 to a 3.2 I'm sure, and OC the 830 to a 3.6 most likely, but the lack of HT really puts a hurting on these chips. *shrugs* I don't know, it's a tough decision.

Im picking myself up off of the floor. When did you start suggesting Intel over AMD? Are you worrking for them?

For some reason I cant get to the Artic silver webpage. It keeps causing an error in IE. I have some heatsink that dont have the sticky anymore so I bought 2 types of Artic silver. One is just the regular stuff and the other is a 2 part Thermal adhesive. Both are Artic silver. Is the 2 part going to act as a glue or bonding agent? The heatsinks are small and dont need much to hold them on. Im using them on hot spots around the CPU.
