Does anyone know where I might be able to download a Windows XP driver for
the Astra 3400? I have the USB version.

UMAX doesn't have it online, but instead requires that owners buy a CD.

Mine is in storage, besides, the driver won't work on anything else, so I
don't see why UMAX would object to me downloading what I already have.

I understand that Windows XP should be able to support my scanner without
any special software from UMAX. Is this true? If so, how do I configure it?
Add hardware didn't work.

Available through the Umax UK or DE sites.
Actually, all the files are at DE site, but use the UK one to download.

Not anymore. They now charge to download the files.

UMAX just lost a customer. I will never again buy a UMAX scanner, or
anything else for that matter.

Does anyone know of a download site? UMAX wants $30. I only paid $60 for the
scanner when it was purchased a year ago, and I can get one like it for less
today.

I'd say they've closed the last door.
You could get 3.75 and 3.82 updater there until recently.

Guess you saw this note re the 3400?:

WindowsXP built-in drivers support directly basic scanning functions of
this scanner. The installation of Umax drivers is not necessary. The
limitation of the Microsoft drivers is the lack of support for scan
buttons and transparency adapters.

I can live with these limits. How do I set up the 3400 to work with XP? Add
hardware in the control panel doesn't work

Not using XP, will let someone else tell you..
My understanding is that it should have recognized it automatically and
be available using WIA.
