Hey there guys!

I'm new in this forum! I've been reading TomsHardware for years, you guys are amazing! :)

I have decided to register because I would like to know the answer to the following question. I have an i7 7700 on an Asus B250M Prime motherboard. It is currently running with 2 G.Skill 2400Mhz RAM modules of 4GB each (8GB total).

I would like to upgrade to 16G of RAM. Thing is, my heatsink is blocking one of the ram modules. The board is not very big and I would like to know if a loss of performance would be noticeable if I installed a new 8GB single channel module, so the result would be 2x4GB + 1x8GB modules.

Would you go for a 2x8GB instead? Please, comment below so we can start a discussion.

Thanks! 😀

I think that you should go with the 2x8 they usually recommend using 2 sticks for the dual-channel ( you have to be careful of using the correct slots)

Actually I'm using a Prime 250M-A with 2x8 ddr4 ram
