Question ASUS B450-I seemingly dead. Could use help reviving

So I didn't know about the big nono that is swapping modular PSU cables.
I don't know which one of the cables did it (maybe cpu) but now my mobo won't post. LEDs and Fans all run fine when I press the power button but no display output. (the motherboard has a few leds at the back and most of them stopped working. Also smoke appeared on a module on the motherboard that says AURA on it).

I put all my other components into a test system with its own psu and its running fine (thank god). Now I'm wondering if instead of buying a new mobo, if I could just try fixing mine. I just don't know where to start and there are many ways to go about this.
I'm also scared if the psu can be damaged like this and if it will kill a second board if I try that.

PSU is an EVGA 650W G3 and Mobo is a miniITX Asus ROG b450-i.
Can someone here help me out?

oof. I was hoping that the module would be set apart to not fry anything else. Maybe still even run.

I'm not sure what the "module" is but sounds related to Asus' RGB system. If it's shorted internally it could be preventing the board from a successful power- up. So, once you've satisfied yourself you need to go buy a new board you might try a little experiment. Try to unsolder or cut the Aura module out, carefully so as not to damage the circuit board itselt or short any of it's leads together. Then see if it will boot.... just be sure to use the correct cables this time

Who knows, it just might no longer provide RGB functionality but work otherwise normally. If it still doesn't work, nothing lost but a few moments of time.

You've got the right Idea. I'll be doing this when I have the time and check back in with the results. Lets hope this works, fingers crossed
