Ok peoples first I am not buying till the prices drop again BUT want to get all my ducks in line now info wise.
So am I correct in thinking the only difference between the Asus Dual GTX 1070 8GB & Asus Strix GTX 1070 8GB is the cooling setup?

Are they otherwise the same? Which would use choose (assuming these are your ONLY options) & why?

PS I will not be overclocking

Hey thanks for answering that's what I thought,

I didn't write my specs because I added it to my profile. But I can't see it under my post but I can see yours. Can you see my system specs under my post?

The only difference between the two cards is the cooling, looks, power delivery, and price. The Strix has a better cooling system, and better power delivery, hence more room for overclocking, while the Dual has worse cooling and power(not bad enough to cause performance degradation though), hence less OC headroom. The Strix probably comes with a higher out-of-the-box clock speed(haven't checked, but I'm sure it does), and GPU Boost would take it further still, while the Dual will auto-OC less than the Strix.

The Strix is also more looks-based, with customizable RGB and all those bells and whistles(am I using the right phrase?). If you are a simple man(or woman - gotta count them in), and won't be overclocking(as you've mentioned), then the Dual will be as good a card as the Strix, for you.

Save some cash and get the Dual - it will still perform good. The basic GPU chip on both is the same, so there won't be any magical increase in performance going from the Dual to the Strix - the difference in clock speed would make a maximum of 5 FPS of difference.

Thanks so much, I am heavily leaning towards the Strix because of the three fans. I've seen it cheaper over here in the UK (albeit out of stock like all the 1070s) than the Dual. But my cooling paranoia is such I'd probably be willing to pay up to thirty quid extra for the fans.

And who thought white was a good colour yuck!

Haha ok, it's totally your call - choosing between variants of the same GPU is heavily decided by personal preferences - if you like the look of one cooler/card, then that's the best one for you! :)

I've seen it here for 37 quid ($48 US) cheaper than the dual. Which seems weird

Must be out of stock then. Once it comes back it's price would probably shoot up. Happened here as well - RX 580 was selling pretty cheap even with the mining craze, now it's gone up, and is out of stock as well. They don't update the price until it comes back in stock.
