Hey I've a Asus e402s that I bought second hand recently and I've had problems with it since. It came loaded with Windows 10 on an internal disk (32GB Emmc) and I had only 1.1GB of space left. That make the laptop super slow so I decided to swap to Ubuntu (just for the time while my SSD comes). I'm booting the installer and I follow instructions as usual and when I'm about to choose the hdd where the Ubuntu suppose to be installed, I'm getting an error box saying "error fsyncing/closing/dev/mmc(the name of the internal disk): input/output error"

And then when I click ignore it just pops back up on the screen. So basically the installer crashes when that error pops up. So with no solution in mind, I went to try and install win7 on it. Unfortunately with no luck as when the windows pops up where I suppose to choose the disk to install Windows to, I'm just getting a "Missing CD/DVD driver... Or USB flash drive..." (I'm at work, I can't remember the exact message but will post it here when I come back home). And yeah so I'm unable to install either Ubuntu or Win7. Now when I tried to install Win10 I didn't even get to choose a partition. As soon as the laptop is booting from the USB stick, I'm getting a win10 BSOD saying that "we encountered a problem, we will restart for you" (again I can't remember the exact wording) with an error code: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT.

Oh yeah and also while I initially bought it (before trying to install Ubuntu or win7) it was Windows 10 loaded and it kept randomly shutting off. And after like 10-15min of being just idle, screen artifacts show up just like of screen is broken and I can't do anything in GUI. I think that might be something to do with the disk. I tried to format the disk with EaseUs Partition Master bootable USB and that went ahead OK, it got formatted. But still can't install any OS. So now I'm just stuck with a laptop that has no OS on it so it's basically useless. I'm waiting for the SSD to come and I'll try to install OS on that, I hope that will work. But for now, anything I can try to do with it? I really need it for college as I'm a full time student as well.

Thanks in advance,
Adrian

As I understand it, EMMC is not much better than a flash/thumb drive.

And 32 GB is not enough either in most cases when it comes to Windows 10.

Unfortunately the current hardware is probably just not up to running Windows.

The new SSD may offer some improvement but the nagging issue is "second hand".

Really no way to know what else has happened to or been done to the Asus.

Start with as clean an installation as possible and keep the configuration simple - just the bare necessities.

Then if performance improves you can then add applications etc. one at a time. Hopefully you will find some balance between your requirements and what the Asus will actually be able to do.
