Hello guys,

My rig stopped working a few days ago. It was working fine one night and the next morning I got the CPU LED light staying on all the time and no POST.

Here is My PC Build (this have been working perfectly for the last 6 years):

MOBO: ASUS Evo m5a99x
CPU: FX-8350
CPU Cooler: EVO 212
PSU: Antec 750w Bronze
GFX: XFX NVIDIA 1080
RAM: Patriot @1333
2 SSD
3 HDD

Here is what I have tried to isolate the issue:

  1. Clear the CRTL Pin.
  2. Remove the MOBO battery for at least 30 seconds.
  3. I removed everything from the board and the case and thoroughly checked the board for blown capacitors and everything seems fine.
  4. I tested the PSU and GFX card on another computer and they work fine.
  5. I assembled everything out of the case to rule out any grounding issue but I still get the same results.
  6. Tested with all the ram 1 by one on different slots.
  7. I tried with the TPU and EPU Switch OFF and ON.
  8. Removed the PINS for the Reset Button.
  9. I noticed the CPU didn't have enough Artic glue on it so I bought some.
Same Issue after testing all this.
All fans, lights on all components turn on fine, I can't tell if there are any beeps cause I don't have the mobo speaker.

Here's a video of the issue.

So I'm guessing at this point is the MOBO or the CPU. Around my area, I haven't found a way to test either one because it's very hard to find that socket here. So the only option I have is to buy either the CPU or a new MOBO and test.

Is there any way I can physically see if the CPU is the problem, burn mark or something like it?

Based on what I described here, which will most likely be the issue. Should I buy a new CPU or a new MOBO?

Thanks in advance.

What kind of budget, do you have for new hardware? I would probably say motherboard is the problem, as CPU's don't die very often. Problem is, given the age of your system, would would be looking at the used market, and potentially ending up right back where you are now.

I still would want to keep the other PC but I'm I bit skeptical if buying the board or the CPU. But I will go with the board first.

Anyways, I agree @logainofhades. I'm looking at buying a ryzen board then. Here is what I'm thinking about getting which fits by budget then I'll upgrade, in the future.

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Processor with Wraith Spire Cooler (YD1600BBAEBOX) $99.12

GIGABYTE GA-A320M-S2H (AMD Ryzen AM4 / MicroATX / 2xDDR4/ HDMI/ Realtek ALC887/ 3xPCIe/ USB3.1 Gen 1/ LAN/ Motherboard) $54.99

V-Color 16GB (1 x16GB) DDR4 DRAM 2666MHz (PC4-21300) CL19 1.2V Colorful U-DIMM Desktop Memory (TC416G26D819) $56.99

Of there is some better recommendation you guys may have will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

I would not recommend an A320 board. No overclock capability, and they are really best left to office pc's. Ram should be at least 3000 speed, and in dual channel.

I bought the new board, CPU and memory.

Everything went fine during installation, I used the same windows install I had and I have been getting a couple of BSOD when the system is under load and sometimes just when windows boots up.

I'm playing Borderlands 3 and when playing I get random crashes and sometimes a BSOD. Some other games don't show textures correctly and some others don't even load.

What could be causing this, should I reinstall windows?
