Can you use the fan curves on OPT fans on the board. The CPU and CHA fans work fine but I also have an OPT fan and while it shows the RPM I can't control it. Can OPT fans not be controlled from fan xpert?

So I enabled the fan control and set it to user mode but I still can't use Fan Xpert...can I only control OPT from the UEFI because when I'm in the fan control settings it's different than for the CPU and CHA fans. There's no profile it's just temp markers. Although it did drop it to 800 RPM so that's good.

How do I auto tune? From what I can tell I can only select a group of fans and chose a profile to run them under as well as adjust the curve for a given profile. Also the OPT fan has two modes in the UEFI. User Mode and Duty Mode. I set it to user mode however fan xpert still doesn't show the OPT fans in the fan group drop down although it accurately displays the RPM in the sensor list.

When you start up Fan Xpert 2 in AI Suites, the first display has a button called "Fan Auto Tuning". When you click that button it will test each fan and allow you to locate and name each fan.

Here is a web page on Fan Xpert (4.35) in your motherboard manual.

I did notice that this is an early version of Fan Xpert. I would make sure that you have the latest version of AI Suites available for your OS.

I have the latest version that's on my motherboards page and as far as the manual. It says nothing about auto tune in fact it says that it allows you to adjust your CPU and CHA fans but it never mentions the OPT fans :/.

The latest version of AI Suite for that OS is Version 2.04.01. It includes ASUS Fan Xpert V1.01.15.

As long as Q-fan in BIOS is enabled, the CPU_Opt header is slaved to the CPU_Fan header. If it's a different size or RPM rating, the RPM can differ but the duty cycle will be identical. If you want to control it separately, you'll need to go into BIOS and disable Q-fan. Not all mobos allow decoupling those two headers, but you can take a look in UEFI and see if it gives you the option.

I'm talking about the OPT_FAN not the CPU_OPT

That's what I'm running. I just checked.

My bad, but the same advice applies. Normally OPT_FANS are linked to thermal sensors mounted near them on the mobo. They're tied into the same Q-fan support that regulates your CPU fan based on CPU temp, so if you're trying to control them manually other than setting alert thresholds try disabling Q-fan.

It uses the temperature of the CPU to adjust the chassis fans. If the OPT fans are enabled in the BIOS (the default setting is disabled), then the OPT fans are adjustable just like the chassis fans. This s true for Fan Xpert 2 and later.

From the motherboard manual description of "Fan Xpert" that is available for your motherboard, it s an earlier version with less features. So some of this may not apply.

Smart Mode links the fan RPM ramp to the CPU temperature. RPM Mode allows setting the fan from the minimum RPM up to of the maximum RPM.

Yea...I don't think it's available 🙁. Because I did go into the UEFI and enable the OPT fan so it's not just running at full speed and it did slow too and will adjust based on temp but it's not on a curve or anything it's just a low temp and a high temp and I can't even change that from the software. Only the UEFI allows me to.

Yea...well considering there's only 2 990fx rog boards and this is the better one it wasn't like I had a whole load of options.
