Hello,

I bought a brand new Asus ROG GL502VS yesterday. It has an nVIDIA GTX 1070 GPU and i7-6700HQ. I bought this laptop only because I was really willing to get 300fps in CS:GO. However, I am only able to get about 120-180 fps (not stable). I have tried everything that I could find on the internet. I have tried:

- Setting launch options (-high -threads4 -novid)
- fps_max 999 and fps_max 0
- setting nvidia settings to max performance
- lowering the resolution from 1920*1080 in game
- setting Windows settings to Max Performance

I tried playing Overwatch at Max settings and I got 80-90 fps in it with GPU temperature at ~85C.

Why am I not getting high fps in CS:GO even after using such a high-end laptop? Please help me out.

Am I simply not getting max performance from my laptop because I haven't optimized it properly? or is there something wrong with it and I should return it?

Newer Nvidia cards have this thing called the No Load Limit. If the card is outputting frames as fast (or faster) than the display can display said frames, it won't boost up to its boost speed because it's already maxing out the display. This is not something that can be changed. It's not the laptop's fault, your expectations are unfair.

Why do you need 300 FPS anyway? I know plenty of people that can see the difference between 30-60Hz, 60-100Hz, and a few that can tell the difference between 100-144Hz. I don't know of anyone that can accurately see each frame at framerates above 144Hz.

There are a lot of people who are getting 250+ fps at a lower configuration than mine using nVIDIA cards. My display (external monitor) is 144Hz. Are you saying that nVIDIA just can't let me play CS:GO at 300 fps? Because there are a lot of people who have lower configuration than mine and they play CS:GO at 300 fps.
Also, I know the theory about how we can only see 144Hz at the 144Hz refresh rate. But in games like CS:GO, fps is not just about viewing the frames. It's more about the performance of the mouse and aiming. I, and almost every experienced CS player, can tell the difference between 160fps and 60fps even while playing at 60Hz.

I have the same laptop, with the same problem. This beast should easily be able to max out the fps on any game I play, however I get 40 fps playing league of legends and 30-50 playing csgo. But I would like to clarify that what you are saying about telling the difference between 160fps and 60fps on a 60hz monitor is a slight misunderstanding. Simply put, though a computer shows 300fps in the corner while playing csgo, it doesn't mean that the screen is displaying that. The 60hz ips display on your asus for example, literally only shows 1 out of every 6 frames that the gpu is generating when at 300fps, so on the laptop screen you can only see up to 60fps, it just isn't capable of displaying more and what your eyes are seeing is actually placebo unfortunately.

Now back to the topic at hand; there is absolutely no reason (that I can think of) for a gtx 1070 to be having frames that low, especially on a game like csgo. When I first purchased my computer, it had no problem running any of my games at 100+fps, including graphically intensive AAA titles. I think the problem began when I updated my Nvidia drivers.

Once I get home to my computer, I will revert the Nvidia driver update and tell you how it goes. It seems like other people are having the same problem as we are and most of them fixed it by reverting the drivers.

Best of luck!

Hi! Thanks for your reply.

Regarding the difference that you explained between the shown fps in games and the actual fps we see on our monitor, I totally agree with it. However, having 300fps in CS:GO, no matter what refresh rate of your monitor is, provides much better performance than 100fps. The shots register better and the gameplay is smoother. I can say that from my experience of being a CS player for 11 years. Also, I use an external 144Hz monitor with my laptop to play CS:GO.

Did you get a chance to revert your nVIDIA drivers? If yes, did it affect the FPS? Please let me know. Thanks.
