Hello. I own a ASUS ROG GL553VD and today, all of the sudden i heard some clicking noise from the HDD and after a couple of seconds it just shutdown. I can assume that this hdd is dead but i tried another one from my old laptop and this shows up in the BIOS but it just wont boot up. I checked all the connections on the motherboard but cant seem to find what can cause this.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Free data recovery programs are Photorec and Recuva . But those dont work that well. I guess you didnt backup anywhere like usb or another hdd :(
One which works pretty well is this : https://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm
But it costs around 80$

Thing is you probably cant read it at all if the header is stuck, you can always try first with usb dock and one of these programs.

If you want to risk it here is how you can recover the stuck header :

This all depends how important those school projects are, you can always take it to professional too.

Meanwhile if you want to use the 2nd hdd in this laptop instead of the old, just get...

Dont try to boot from it again it has a mechanical problem. Do you have important data on that disk? I mean something which cant be risked to be deleted?
There is few ways to try "fix" it to atleast have data recovery, but only long term solution is to get SSD.
Thanks for the answer. Can you tell me what are those ways? I have some school projects that are due pretty soon and i dont really want to lose them.

Meanwhile if you want to use the 2nd hdd in this laptop instead of the old, just get same version than ASUS ROG GL553VD was shipped with, get the product key from behind the laptop, then make windows installer USB (go windows site for right version), then install windows to the HDD and active with your ASUS ROG GL553VD product key
