ASUS GPU Tweak or MSI Afterburner with an ASUS card?

Hey,

I got Need for Speed: Payback yesterday and when I was playing it, my GPU reached highs of 65 degrees, which to me is fairly high (my fans are basically at full when the GPU is at 65 degrees) . I've got an ASUS GTX 950 2GB Mini Edition and was told that it'd be better to use the ASUS GPU Tweak program instead, so I did, and it reduced my temperatures on the game from 65 degrees to 53 degrees, which is quite a lot in my opinion.

What i'd like to know, is which of these programs should I be using? I'm not really after overclocking, I just want something to control my fan speeds with along with GPU temperature, as I get really paranoid about my GPU/CPU temperatures and I need to have them visible at all times when gaming. I was planning on using ASUS GPU Tweak, however, I'm kind of interested as to how it made my temperature drop by 12 degrees and the fans weren't working nowhere close to as hard as they were with Afterburner, and I don't want to damage my GPU or any other components.

The Asus Tweak is customized for Asus graphics cards. MSI Afterburner is generic when it comes to other brands of graphics cards. That is a plus for me. Plus it seems to me to be a lighter application and easier to use. Get the Asus Tweak software.

But if you change your mind it is easy to uninstall and go the other route.

Choose the custom fan temperature ramp. And you can set it as you like.

- 65C for a graphics card is not hot especially a smaller one. You are fine until the 90C zone.

- Mini Edition cards tend to be poor overclockers. They don't have the fans the bigger cards do. They also get LOUD at 100% fan speed which you'll need if you want to OC the card. Overclocking will not turn this card into a new GTX 1060 in terms of performance. If you want large performance increase then you'd want a new card.

- If your card got colder after using ASUS Tweak, you either upper the fan speeds or undervolted/underclocked.

- I prefer MSI Afterburner myself. Either program will do what you are looking for which is GPU control.

The thing is, with ASUS GPU Tweak, the fans weren't working as hard as they were with MSI as I could barely hear them, meanwhile, with MSI Afterburner, they can be heard very easily. Also, all I did was press the "gaming booster" and it said that it turned of uneccessary services, and did two other things.

The Asus graphics cards have Silent mode. That means until the temperature reaches a designated level the fans are off. Tweak gives you the option to turn that mode off. With it off you can set what ever minimum you want (above the default).

Apart from that you can set the exact same fan RPM ramp with either software. The statement that the fans work harder with any software is just false.
