Asus GTX 1070 Ti Turbo - oily areas at the back

Hi,

I just bought a used ASUS 1070 Ti Turbo. The card is just 8 months old, I know it is functional, it was sold to me with its purchase receipt and according to claims on the box it comes with 36 months of limited warranty (in any case I still got 4 months of the standard warranty).

However when I looked at it closer, I noticed at the back of the card a couple of areas being "oily" if I can say so.

Is that a common sight on such cards or others? Where does it come from and most importantly is it a sign of upcoming failure or is it just a standard behaviour? It is my first really strong VGA in over 10 years (I was previously into gaming laptops) so I have really no clue how common or worrying it can be.

Thanks

That's reassuring to hear. Otherwise I'd rather take action while I still have warranty.

Slightly off-topic: Is the 36 months limited warranty from ASUS as good as the standard shop warranty? Like if there was a failure, and provided I hadn't messed with the card in any unauthorized way, would I get a repair/replacement as usual? Just curious to what "limited" stands for.

With my limited knowledge on this field it sounds as if it's not exactly ideal. I assume the card does not remove heat adequately and ends up destroying its thermal paste in various areas. Meaning that if this continues it will not be too long before it suffers from overheating issues/throttling?

Or, (optimistic scenario) it could be that there is enough paste applied but a bit of it designed to melt anyway and create these oily areas without really affecting the cooling properties?
