Asus GTX 550 Ti problem: PSU or MOBO ?

Hello,
I recently bought the Asus GTX 550 Ti to start upgrading my computer. My specs are:

ECS 945GTC-M mobo
Kingston 2 GB DDR2 667 x 2 (4 GB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 (2.66 GHz)
Generic PSU 450 W
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

The problem: I've installed Asus GTX 550 Ti, and connected the 6-pin connector to power the card with the adapter included in the box, making sure that the 2 molex used came from different rails from the PSU. Then when I turn on the PC shows at first horizontal dashed lines, however, the PC enters Windows login but with the generic driver, once in Windows monitor continue displaying these horizontal dashed lines. Then when trying to install the drivers for the Asus GTX 550 Ti, the system tells me that there is no video card recognized.

Note that the PCI-e port on my motherboard is 1.0a, however, I have consulted on multiple forums and other users according that card should be recognized by the system.

My questions are:

It is possible that the PSU is not functioning properly ? (PSU 12V 16A)
It is possible that my motherboard does not detect it actually ? ... If so: How is that possible to boot up Windows ?

I think It could be something related with my generic PSU....

GTX 550 ti wants 24A in +12v rail.. If your psu only have 16A you have to change it.. Cx430 will do the job..

Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 500W will work for that ?

If you already have that cooler master psu then go with it.. If you are going to buy a new one go with some trusted manufactures like corsair, seasonic, silverstone, antec, xfx.. Cooler master is not best for power supplies.. Corsair CX500 will be more than enough for your system.. also cx430 will be also fine..

The thing about PCIe 1.0 x 16 is a hit in miss. If the Bios was always updated then you might be able to run a 2.0 on the 1.0. Even if you system sees it, it still might not work well with the card.

Also the 550 ti uses on max load uses 154w which is 13a and one the Nvidias sight it shows 116w on load but in any case it isn't your PSU. You just might have a GPU problem or the slot issue.

You should try your card on another rig to see if it works ok or gives the same problem as it does on your rig. I hope you can work it out because it is frustrating when you want something to work and it doesn't. Good luck to you.

I have already bought the Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 500W, so now I must pray for this to work. I'm waiting it from Amazon.

I will test the card on a friend's rig while PSU arrives.

Yeah I have to agree with the others on your PSU the Cooler Master eXtreme. Is not the one you want to have powering your rig. If it goes it takes a few things with it. My PSU is also bad.

I have to make sure eveyday that I don't put it under stress for fear that if it blows it might take eveything with it and there goes a lot of money out the door. Here is a link to a list of good to bad PSU's.

Tier 1=Good Tier 5=bad. The thing is it is on a Tier 4 and it only uses 75% of the load. You would have to see how many amps are on the 12v rail and figure that it is only going to use 75% of it.
