Hi, all. I recently bought an ASUS DirectCU2 GTX 770, and my initial impressions are very good. Games in general run very smooth at maxed or near maxed settings. Much better than my old 6950, obviously.
I started playing Metro 2033, figuring that would be a good game to showcase my new GPU. And, for the most part, it runs great, but I noticed that occasionally the game would freeze. I'd ALT CTRL DEL and see the error message "Metro 2033 Executable has stopped working" (or something very similar). I wrote it off to it being a Metro problem.
Then I started playing Hitman Absolution (again, trying to showcase the 770). Again, game runs buttery smooth at close to max settings, but every now and again, the game would freeze, with an identical error message that I got in Metro.
I then tried the Heaven benchmark, and it would go through one cycle fine, but would usually freeze up on the second pass (again, same error message...Executable has stopped working). I downloaded the Valley benchmark...identical problem. Furmark burn in test passes just fine though (uses OpenGL, not DX11).
I uninstalled nvidia drivers, ran driver sweep in safe mode, reinstalled...same problems persist. The only thing that seems to work is underclocking the GPU memory 100 MHz. I don't find this to be an acceptable solution, however.
So, are there any tricks I'm missing? I'm on the verge of doing the RMA thing. I bought the Express RMA from NCIX US, so I'd have to move on that quickly if it is indeed hardware related, as it's only valid for 30 days from ship date. I just want to absolutely confirm it's not software related before I go down that path, though.
My specs:
i5 3570k OC'd @ 4.2 Ghz
ASRock z77 Extreme 4 Mobo
8 GB Crucial Ballistix RAM (passes Mem86 tests)
Samsung 120GB EVO SSD
2 Samsung HDD
Forgot about Power Supply: Corsair HX850
