Hello i purchased that Asus gtx 770 Dcu2 OC few days ago.
My previous card was MSI Gtx 570. i had no problem with that one.
My new card makes my computer crash during playing Rift. one coloured screen, and i have to use reset button of my PC.
It usually happens when i try to change maps with using " /Return " command. it also happens when im alt+tabbing while playing the game.
Solutions I have tried; reinstalled game, reinstalled windows, old graphic drivers, newer graphic driver.. Used Thermal Paste on GPU.

I also gave my card to my friend who has gtx 670. He played World of Warcraft for like 4 hours. first crashed happend after 2.5 hours. the second 1.5 hours later. first one while alt tabbing, 2nd on loading screen when changing map.

I played 3 hours rift with his gtx 670. nothing happened.

I thought problem is the card, asked my seller to give me new card 2 days ago. yesterday i had new one.still same problem. after 2-3 hours of playing game crashed.

On the Eventviewer i checked errors i have and it says;

NvStreamSvc
NvVAD initialization failed [6]

Disabled NvStreamSvc still same...

My PSU is Aerocool xstrike 800w

Mainboard Asus P8B75-V

SSD OCZ vertex 4

i7 2600 CPU

i even tried to change power cable that is coming from PSU.

Only thing i didnt try is installing different type of Windows. i have Win7 64 bit atm.

I believe its software issue. because 2nd 770 has same problem..

( is it normal to have 70C temp on Rift with DCu2 btw? )

-----Fresh update-----

After playing 3 hours of Batman, When i exit the game and try to double click on my Mozilla Firefox, BOOM!! , black screen. couldnt even restart PC without cutting power.
No damn crash for 3 hours with ALL settings FULL, but after i exit game and click Mozilla Firefox???

Seriously is there anything i can do?
Any software that can help me to find out problem with crash logs whatever?

is i7 2600 isnt good enough for gtx 770?

i updated my bios like a month ago before i get gtx 770.
its Asus P8b75-V mainboard. Bios version is 1501.
Now i see there is new one 1601.
I downloaded the file, when i try to use Bios application to update it to 1601 it says "selected file is not an uefi bios"

Today i see there is a Bios update on Asus website for my gtx 770. did it. gonna try games during day.

is there anything that i can try before i RMA? I mean any software that can shows me where the crashes happens? Except Eventviewer...

Updating the cards bios is a great idea , hopefully that fixes it, another trick that works for some cards is to lower the clocks from the factory overclock, I know this doesn't sound fair , but some peeps have had success lowering the clocks down abit

I've been having the same kind of PC freeze ups.. few minutes into a game I get a black screen followed by the monitor losing its hdmi signal and then going into standby as well as the audio looping endlessly. I tried a few games like Batman Arkham City and CoD Ghosts. It would seem that the more stress a game puts on the card the less time I have before experiencing the crash.

It even crashes when running furmarks burn in test for about 7 minutes. When I examine my machine there are no real signs of any fans stopped like some users report.

I tried updating the cards BIOS but to my great disappointment I still got crashes with furmark :S Currently the card goes up to 100% load and the temperature stays at around 74'C. GPU Clock reports around 1147 MHz but I'm sure the boost clock is set to be 1111 MHz.

Desperately in need of some advice please. Thanks.. I frequently come across users' under-clocking the card to fix the issue.. but i'm not sure what kind of decrements i should be making and whether its just to the GPU clock and not the memory clock. How do I know if I've made a stable decrement. I'm running a stock GTX770-DC2OC-2GD5 at the moment.

I bought the same videocard last week and have similar issues. I updated to the latest bios and it caused the Asus GTX 770 to overheat that white screens of death appeared on my screen and very slow frame rates occurred when playing games and running gpu benchmarks. I returned the GPU yesterday and ordered the MSI GTX 760 Gaming edition. I really didn't want to spend over $260 on videocard, because I want to put the extra money towards a PS4 or to the upcoming GTX 800 series

yea I have the exact same problem,[ONLY AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF PLAYING GAMES] PC Freezes screens lose power and nothing works except hard reset. ( ASUS gtx 770 direct cu ii) will RMA my card asap .... it's unfortunate since it's 3 weeks old.

Hi,

I'm having the exact same problem from my brand new (brought on 23.11.2013) ASUS GTX770 DirectCU II OC. Previously I was using a Sapphire HD 5850 without any problems.

I started Skyrim in ultra high, played for about 20 minutes before complete Freeze (random colour on screen, nothing works aside from hard reset. After that launched Metro Last Light and that did the same thing before even getting past the opening menus.

I've been in contact with Asus support who suggested I try it on another PC. I did that just now and put it in my brother's PC. No crashes running Skyrim ultra high or Empire Total War with everything maxed out.

For info my set-up is:
- Windows 64-bit fully updated
- Intel Core i7 950 BOX, 3.06 GHz, LGA 1366, 4C/8T
- Motherboard is Asus P6X58D-E, Intel X58 with latest BIOS 0803
- RAM is Mushkin Redline 3x2GB, DDR3-1600, CL6-8-6-24@1.65V
- Power Supply is Cooler Master Silent Pro Series PSU - 700 Watt

All above components were brought in October 2010.

I also updated the latest GPU BIOS and got the most recent drivers (version 331.82).

Maybe my Power Source is too old and not coping?

Any help here would be great as RMA doesn't seem like the solution since it worked in my brother's PC.

Thanks in Advance

I'm having this EXACT same problem, I was terrified I messed up something when building my PC. I got an Asus GTX 770 DirectCU II OC 2Gb, from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CY5GP08/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i03?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was first concerned when Battlefield 4 would crash, which I then associated with the game itself being buggy at the moment (which I still think is an issue with BF4).

But then I was playing Bioshock Infinite on Ultra and it crashed after say 15 minutes. I get a randomly coloured screen, and my PC just freezes and I need to do a hard reset. Sometimes there's an audio bug too, which I guess is just the last sound repeated constantly. I then lowered the settings to Very High and it lasted maybe 2 hours before a crash, and then at High settings maybe about the same or a bit longer.

I NOW just got a crash on The Might Quest for Epic Loot. Which isn't a very graphically intensive game. Am I wrong, or shouldn't this GPU be good enough to run games on Ultra? Or atleast High?

My drivers are all up to date. Is the GPU BIOS something different? I only built it exactly a week ago, so I can't imagine they'd be out of date though

Should I just get a refund and buy a new card?

So far the only game to not give me any trouble has been Team Fortress 2, which in fairness, is like ten years old.

I was worried maybe my PSU was too low power, but I;ve been told that 500W should be plenty for my rig.

My system:

GPU: Asus GTX 770 Nvidia GeForce DirectCU II OC 2GB GDDR5 Graphics Card (PCI Express 3.0, HDMI, DVI-I, DVI-D, Display Port, 256 Bit, 3D Vision Ready, GPU Boost 2.0)

OS: Microsoft Windows 8 Standard 64 bit OEM, WN7-00403, English Version [updated to 8.1]

RAM: 8GB-Kit Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 MHz CL9

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K Box, LGA1150

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (120mm)

Motherboard: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming, ATX, Sockel 1150

PSU: Builder Series CX 80+ Bronze, 500 Watt, ATX, EPS12V, PS/2

Yes. BIOS is essentially like the firmware for the hardware. The BIOS is as current as when the card was manufactured. It seems like the solution has been a BIOS update. I just recently updated mine after crashing in Company of Heroes 1 and 2 and so far I haven't crashed yet but still testing. Its recommended you go here to the Asus site: http://support.asus.com/Troubleshooting/list.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=9&m=GTX770-DC2OC-2GD5&s=2&hashedid=ScKroddTgLQQRMz1&os=

And get the bios update from there.

Check your device manager and disable all the nvidia audio drivers, and make sure nvstreamsvc is totally disabled, you will have no crashes and lockups i promise.

I had the same issue and tried nearly everything to fix it. After updating to the latest gpu bios like Spysix recommended it also seems to be fixed, additionally i also tried jewows recommendation and so far it seems like the issue is solved :)

Well having the exact same problem as OP and silverdirewolf. Updated the GPU and tried Jewow's advice and that also did not work. I was able to browse the web and play dota 2 for hours without it crashing. but if i start playing something gpu intensive like BF4 or hit man absolution then the screen locks up. I built my PC on dec 8, 2013 and this problem started on Dec 17, 2013. I have a feeling it may be an nvidia driver issue as some people with different gpus have reported the drivers crashing and getting the black screen and hdmi signal loss. will try the nvidia beta driver or try an older driver. Also have contacted asus to see there response. the current nvidia diver i have: 331.82 WHQL

Appears I am in this same boat. For a while, I was able to use it, but now, any time I tax the system beyond a certain point, I lose it and the screen fails. I have replaced the power supply, updated the BIOS of both the GPU and the motherboard, reinstalled drivers countless times, and basically have been searching for an answer for about a week now.

Exactly the same problem here.

I have installed the same GPU (ASUS DirectCU II CU GTX 770 2 GB DDR5) less than a month ago on a pretty good hardware setup, with different components than previous posters, but the problem is the same.

That means the problem is not the compatibility with our hardware, it's in the GPU itself! And that makes me wonder how a respectable company like ASUS can place on the market a GPU without even testing it extensively!

The strange thing is that i was able to play newest games (Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Splinter Cell Black List, Batman Arkam Origins) indefinitely, without any problem, with Diablo 3 the problem arised during cut-scene movies and Alt-Tabbing, never during normal gameplay, while with Skyrim the problem happens really often (once every 10 - 15 minutes).
It can't just be related to GPU load, given that newest games must require more work from the GPU than Skyrim does.

Apparently even the latest BIOS version doesn't solve the problem, so we can just insist in reporting the problem to ASUS and hope for a future firmware update to fix the problem!

Yeh 70C is about a normal load temp.
