I've built my first ever computer.

Bought this motherboard and an i5 7600 CPU

I did a lot of research, looked into parts, made sure everything was compatible.

I knew that I might have to flash the BIOS if it came with an earlier version. Which it did.

However, there doesn't seem to be a way to update the BIOS without a compatible CPU?

Is this correct? None of the compatibility checks mention this. None of the support notes when listing compatible CPUs state that if you need a BIOS update, you need a compatible CPU first.

So I'm wondering, am I screwed? Or can I somehow update the BIOS without a compatible CPU attached?

Many of the ASUS MBs have a flashback port on the rear IO panel however yours does not unfortunately.
I doubt if the system would post without a CPU but you can try.

With your CPU installed, What happens.?

You can try by using another system to download the Bios file from ASUS support to an empty fat32 formatted USB stick. (rename the Bios file to H170PG.CAP) On power up the system should recognize the USB and automatically enter EZ Flash3 utility. If so your good to go.

I tried the USB stick. Nothing happened.

With my CPU installed no video output, fans all go, but nothing happens.

And you can't get into your Bios using the delete key during Post.?

If not then contact ASUS as they may have the solution or at least they should without having to install another CPU.
I have checked and the MB definitely supports the i5-7600.

It doesn't POST. Thats the problem.

I've already contacted ASUS. Waiting for their response.

I think it's very...shall I say...crooked...that they advertise compatibility with the 7600 but neglect to tell you, that you need a compatible CPU to perform the update.

I updated my previous post as I checked with their support and your MB does indicate support for i5-7600 so yea it's disgraceful.
