Asus H87M-Plus memory

I'm considering using the Asus H87M-Plus in a new build. I'm targeting 16Gb of ram. Should I go with 2 8Gb sticks or 4 4Gb sticks? What is dual channel memory and should I care?

I will recommend the use of a 2x8GB kit, two sticks run cooler than four it also puts less stress on the memory controller.
You do want dual channel function (the purchase of a 'kit' of ram will ensure compatibility between modules) as it offers a significant (not double though, maybe 20%) increase over single channel.

Note that Dual Channel and Double Data Rate (DDR) are not the same thing, any ram you purchase will be Double Data Rate (DDR3)

No real thing or specific 'DUAL Channel' DRAM, DDR# DRAM is DRAM, can take any sticks if they will play nice together and run them (in the proper number) in single, dual, tri or quad channel mode - the different channel modes are determined by the MC (memory controller) and it's capabilities - and as mentioned above 2x8GB is preferable to 4x4GB , less stress and can have ever so slightly better performance (not that you'll 'see', but will be there 😉
