I have an Asus k541u laptop purchased in dubai by a friend last october. He came home in december. I have been using my laptop now mainly for multimedia and video editing then 2days ago, the keyboard started acting strange. Whenever i type, the asterisk randomly appears, until it so happens as if shift+8 (command to trigger *) has been jammed and ****************** starts happening. Some people say it's just dust and my keyboard needs cleaning. I did clean with a brush and not the letter K isn't working.

Solution
Try this...

1. Uninstall the keyboard driver.
2. Reboot the computer (without reinstalling the driver).
3. When it restarts, it should reinstall the driver on its own.

If this doesn't work, you may wish to try connecting an external keyboard and see if it works fine. If it does, then it could be the keys themselves that are the issue.

You might also want to run some good deep virus and malware checking software, should the above not work.
