Hi, My friend just give me one used desktop. It is exact same as this one:

I was thinking upgrade a new GPU, since the current is running as APU station. So here is something I was wondering about; First, does it work individually as CPU+GPU not as APU if I just plug in a new GPU on it? Second, I was thinking about 260x, 270, and 6970, do I need to change a new motherboard for them (I know I will need a new PSU for them)? Third, If I need to change a new motherboard, what kind of motherboard should I be changing?

You would need a new power supply for those cards, but you wouldnt really need to change the motherboard.

Per this page:
http://www.asus.com/us/Desktops/M11BB/specifications/

You have a PCI-e x16 slot. Which is great news! You can upgrade the graphics card! It also looks like you have an upgradeable power supply (sometimes they dont actually make them) so you can upgrade that too based on what you get. You should upgrade it anyways, but still.

Of the cards you listed, the 6970 is going to need the most power. All of the cards you listed should be able to be powered by an Antec VP-450.

I believe the A8 is also a quad core. So you should be good with that. Upgrade one part at a time, so if you think you might need to upgrade the motherboard and processor as well, do that after testing the games you like to play. Dont worry about bottlenecks like some people might say, if the graphics card is better, its better. There is a point where if you buy a better one it wont make a difference, but at least at this price a better graphics card will always make a difference.

Ok, thanks for your help. But does this board fit with pci3.0 graphic card?or pci 2.1?Cause I think there are pci 2.0, 2.1, and 3.0 cards (like both 260 and 260x are pci 3.0).

I have purchased one corsair 600w psu, and R265. After I install both of them, I released that there is a 4 pin port on the motherboard which this psu has no cable to fit in, and I just leave it. So I try to turn on the computer, but the psu fan does not function, not even the system. Is this normal?
