is it just me, or is the am4a79t deluxe will not let you boot from a usb drive? ive tried every available setting, including floppy. any pointers?

You must first set your usb stick as DISK 1 in the bios. Then set your usb stick as the first boot device. This solved the same issue on my system with the same motherboard.

Wow you replied over a year after the original question, and here I am over 13 years later writing to say thanks! I'm still using that board in a file server, it's been running Win10 since it came out. I've done a few system refreshes before from the settings tab, which always went fine and I didn't need to supply media. For some reason (I can rule out a disk space issue) it crashed this time, so I was stuck in an endless reboot cycle, just as if the power had gone out. I can write dual layer DVDs, but I honestly couldn't justify spending £25 on a pack of dual layer DVDs when I only wanted one to create the boot media. I'll be honest I thought it would somehow confuse the install, but it went through sweetly - I just had to remember to unplug the flash drive on one of the reboots. Thanks again!!
