Asus M5A97 R2.0 Motherboard, no display on monitor

Hi guys, I'm a new computer builder and I'm having some trouble getting my PC to display anything on the monitor. It starts just fine, all the fans spin and a green led light glows on the motherboard, but still nothing shows up on the monitor. Here are my specs, keep in mind all of this is brand new out of the box:

CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor
Motherboard: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Crucial M500 240GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB Video Card
Wireless Network Adapter: Rosewill RNX-N250PCe 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter
Case: Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair Enthusiast 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer

Unfortunately, this particular mobo did NOT come with a speaker so I can't hear any beeps to diagnose the problem. I currently have it set up as an external build with just the CPU, GPU, memory and cpu heatsink installed. I have an HDMI cable connecting the gpu to the monitor.

Things I have tried to solve this:

-Taking out/switching the RAM sticks into different slots
-Softly cleaning the RAM sticks (shouldn't be an issue though seeing as it's brand new)
-Using a different PCI slot for the gpu
-Resetting the CMOS
-Checking the CPU for any damage (none so far as I can tell)

I'm also pretty sure I have everything plugged in correctly. If anyone can offer some help I'd be extremely grateful.

There's a thin bar code sticker on the board. What are the last 4 digits on that sticker?

It does support it. Can you test different video port (DVI or VGA)?
It would be also helpful to connect an internal speaker to the board.

Unfortunately I cannot, I'll have to order a DVI to VGA adapter to connect my GPU rather than use HDMI.

Yes, I suggest trying a DVI to VGA adapter (if the port is DVI_I).
Try also borrowing a graphics card from a friend and testing.
If ordering the adapter, it would be good to order an internal speaker too. It's not expensive and in such cases it does help.

Okay so we received the DVI/VGA adapter but once again could not get anything to display on the monitor. We even tested it on another monitor we had in our basement but got the same result. We ordered an internal speaker that should arrive tomorrow and hopefully that will be able to tell us what the problem is.

Okay so I'm back with more bad news unfortunately. We got a speaker header in the mail so we could finally check if the mobo was going through its POST but failed to get any beeps at all. We tried first with the whole computer put together in the case and then did an external build with just the basic components installed. We also tried taking off the RAM, video card, and CPU one at a time to try to get specific beep codes but still got nothing.

So our assumption at this point is that the problem is the motherboard, is this likely the case? If so, should we contact ASUS and get a replacement motherboard or are we more likely to find success with finding a different motherboard entirely?

Test with only CPU and CPU fan installed, both 24 and 8 pin power cables connected, CPU fan connected to the CPU_fan header. Check also if the small jumper for the CLRCMOS is in place:

If no beeps and the CPU fan is spinning when starting the board, then try reseating the CPU and check it for bent pins. If still no go, then it might be a board or a CPU issue. I'd RMA them both. Try contacting the retailer.

I tried running it as you said and still got no beeps, even after reseating the CPU so I'm almost positive it's either the motherboard or CPU. I'll likely return both. Thank you very much for your advice through this, it's very appreciated!
