Asus M5A97 R2.0, succesful post, can't enter bios

I recently built a computer with an Asus M5A97 R2.0 motherboard, an AMD FX 6300 processor, and 8GB of Kingston HyberX Blue RAM. The system powers and POSTs successfully (with a single short beep), but won't let me enter bios. I get the Asus splash screen, which tells me to press 'del' to enter bios, but the keyboard won't work. In the manual, it says that one short beep means "VGA detected, quick boot set to disabled, and no keyboard detected" even if I have a keyboard plugged in. I've tried both a USB and PS/2 keyboard, neither worked.

Aside from the keyboards, I've tried clearing the cmos, and RMA-ed the mobo to check if that was the issue. With the new mobo I ran into the exact same problem, which leads me to think that a bad mobo probably isn't the issue. I've also tried using the DirectKey button (on the mobo), which should allow the user to directly enter bios without pressing 'del', and it still takes me to the splash screen. Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated, it's getting frustrating to have a build so close but not quite working.

Check with a different keyboard. It should be solved. 😉

Might have an old BIOS, need at least BIOS 1006, might also be bent or broken pins on CPU

Thanks for the quick responses, I've made some progress (or at least change) - I used the BIOS flashback to update to the most recent BIOS, and the first or second time I booted after the update it said something like "problem loading operating system" on a black screen. Booted it down, and next time I booted it let me enter BIOS settings, but I couldn't do anything once I was in. After many more tries, it has only let me back into BIOS settings a couple other times, and I still couldn't do anything once I was there. Any more advice?

I tried disconnecting drives, using just mobo, cpu, cooler, 1 stick of DRAM, and GPU (with keyboard and monitor), and ended up with the same result. I tried booting one more time, and got this message - "The current BIOS setting do not fully support the boot device. Click OK to enter the BIOS Setup. Go to Advanced > Boot > CSM Parameters, and adjust the CSM settings to enable the boot device." Is this simply because I don't have any drives connected? Also, I only have a USB wireless mouse and an old Apple wired mouse, and neither of them are showing up so I can't even click OK.

One more thing - if the keyboard works on booting, it'll randomly stop working after a little bit. Not sure why, just stops responding.

I have tried 3 wired keyboards, two PS/2 and one USB, all with the same results. If I hold down delete on booting, I get brief keyboard usage of certain keys (num lock, delete, I can do ctl-alt-delete, that's about it), and if I try and press anything else (enter, for example) the keyboard freezes up. When I first get into BIOS (if I hold delete on booting), I have very brief access to any key, but it lasts for about a second at most and then locks up again.

I've been looking through the manual, double checking some things, and I noticed that this mobo supports 16GB (4x4) and 12GB (4x3) of the Kingston HyperX Blu, while I simply have 8GB (4x2). Could this be an issue?

I don't know if you've resolved this issue yet, but I'm building my first PC and ran into the exact same issue. I have an Asus M5A97 R2.0 with an AMD FX 6300. I don't have a monitor, so I plugged my newly built PC in to an older LCD TV (purchased in 2007) with an HDMI cable. Windows loaded from a drive I took from an older computer, so the PC was working, but I just got a black screen when I hit "Delete" or "F2" at post to enter bios.

I plugged the PC into a much newer plasma HDTV (also via HDMI cable), and when I hit "Delete" at post the UEFI BIOS interface came up immediately and it's worked fine ever since. I'm new enough at this I can't guess at the technical reasons, but it appears that I was actually accessing the BIOS all along and just couldn't see it until I connected the PC to a better display. I guess the motherboard was incapable of displaying it on the older TV that I tried initially.

Try hooking your build up to a newer display (monitor, HDTV etc). I think that you'll find you've been accessing the BIOS all along and couldn't see it (literally). Hope this helps.

This could be to do with if you are on a tv the BIOS can only support a certain resolution you will need a monitor to be able to access it (Not to sure what the res is tho sorry)

Anyone have any luck with this issue. I'm having a similar problem Stuck at the Del or F2 screen and can't get past it.

I've tried most everything above also.

My problem started to happen on a working build which has been running for a month....was using Asus Al Suite II software to load a profile I had working before and the software locked up. Couldn't do anything but force it and the box down...first reboot seemed to work but still had the problem with Asus Suite II locking up....the next go-about with forcing it down and rebooting just stays on Del or F2 screen....so basically I had a working system and Asus Suite II caused me major problems which I've run out of ideas on.

Did anyone ever get theirs working?

Clear CMOS and see if that helps you get past any BOOT halts. If you still get errors, then might be worth posting system specs and stating how you have the system setup.
