Hello, I recently bought an asus m5a97 r2.0 and 2 4gb sticks of ram. On first attempt to boot everything powered up, but the monitor received no signal. I tried placing the ram in every combination of slots and ran memok. The red memok light only blinked endlessly after I pressed it. Finally I tried updating the bios with usb flash back. But the process won't complete. The light flashes after 3 seconds like it id supposed to, but hasn't finished after more than an hour.

[milesbradford@hotmail.com] Old A+ Techy --- Solution to M5A97R2.0 not even POSTing --- POST means Power On Self Test --- On any motherboard that does not reach the POST --- it is because --- THERE'S NOT ENOUGH POWER COMING FROM THE 12v plug coming from the Power Supply. You are probably trying to use an "old" PC box with an outdated Power Supply that even though it might say it puts out 450 watts -- believe me -- it does NOT. On top of that you are probably plugging in a 4 Pin plug into the 12 volt plug on the MB while the MB clearly needs a 8 Pin 12v plugged into it. Ahhhh...you say. Well, the MB is only getting around 230 to 250 watts and the M5A97R2.0 MB needs at least 350 watts to even sneeze at the monitor so you're better off getting a NEW 500 Watt Power Supply (I use Corsair name brand CX500/CX550). Putting in the correct Power Supply will solve most of the problems that newly installed more modern MB needs. With the NEW Power Pack supplying 500 watts the POST will "POST" and you'll be able to "hear" the POST beeps (1, 2 or 3) to see your keyboard is working and your BIOS will pop up and you'll be able to check that out also. Cheers

The problem does not always leads to the same defect. In many cases it is sufficient to replace the CPU. Who uses a motherboard of this magnitude, hardly use a power supply with a few watts, guaranteed for its own operation ;D
