I came home this evening to find my computer wouldn't boot, the last thing I needed after a long day. So I started to troubleshoot but I couldn't get very far because I have work and won't be able to check everything until Monday afternoon, so I'm writing this to see if anyone can help me troubleshoot the problem based on what I know already. Here are my specs:
ASUS M5A97 R2.0 motherboard
AMD FX 8350 stock speed and fan
4X4GB AMD R9 Gaming RAM @ 2133mhz(clocked down to 1866 for the FX 8350)
MSI R9 290 4GB
Corsair HX850 80 Plus Gold PSU
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB(OS and apps)
WD Black 3TB 7200 RPM drive(games and personal files)
What I know so far is this:
I don't think it's the RAM, I pulled out all the sticks, put them all in the first slot and booted each time with no success. So unless all 4 sticks went bad all of a sudden then I doubt they're the culprit.
The mobo light is green when receiving power, which puts me in a conundrum on my theory of what the problem is because I originally suspected the board being bad.
The MemOK light flashes for a couple of seconds on boot, but is not solid.
When I start up the computer, one of the lights for the fan speed control does not turn on. This has been a problem in the past that fixed itself somehow recently and now it has come back. I suspect a possible power issue because the light was the middle light of the 5, and now it is one of the end lights.
When I start the computer, the CPU fan spools up to about 50% speed and the. Immediately drops to about 10%
So I know I don't have too much to go on but maybe someone has an idea based on my current observations. Monday afternoon I plan to strip my computer apart, check all the connectors for the power supply pins, and carefully put everything back together to see if anything changes. I don't have a little speaker for the beep codes, and I don't know how to do a CMOS clear so if that is advisable I'd appreciate a video link on how to do it properly.
Thanks in advance for any and all help, it is deeply appreciated!
