Hi everybody,

I've installed Windows XP on a computer which has a P4B533 mainboard
from ASUS I will appreciate it if you could give me insight into the
situation it causes:

1- After installing mainboard driver, I can see an icon which says
there is a internet connection but when I run IE I can't use internet.
Please know that I checked "Control Panel/system/devices" and
networking status is OK.

2- Under "Control Panel/system/devices" it shows two devices that are
not recognized yet 1) PCI Simple Communication Interface and 2) VGA.

Please at least let me know what is wrong with internet connection.

Regards,
Amit

Bobby,

I appreciate your quick response. Just let me know why is says that
there is connection with 100 mbps but when I run IE nothing comes up.
Also, I searched its CD but nothing was found.

Any clue?

Once again thanks,
Amit

You have not installed any drivers.

You need to first install the drivers for your Video card or video chipset.
That is why you are getting the unrecognized VGA.

Next, install the drivers for the modem you installed That will take care of
the error for the "PCI Sinple Communicatiosn Interface".

Latly, you will need to iintall the drivers for the NIC card.

Check the manufacturers website for each device to get the latest drivers
for the Operating System you are using.

You probably also need to install motherboard and chipset drivers if you
have not already done so.

Looking in the P4B533 user manual, I don't see a LAN chip or an
RJ-45 connector on that motherboard.

The ICH4 Southbridge has a built-in LAN media access controller,
but for that to work, there has to be an external PHY chip and
transformers.

The CMI8738 has an optional interface called HSP56, used for a
PCTel style dialup Winmodem. A DAA on a riser card would be
needed to complete that interface, and I don't see that on the
board either.

Unless I'm missing something here, I don't see any ready-to-go
network interface, so you'll need to pop a PCI Ethernet card into
the computer.
