Hey guys, I've been trying for a whole day to install Win10 on my new Evo 960 500GB but it just don't show up in boot options, I've been looking all over the bios, couldn't find anything that'll change it, updated the bios to the latest , placed it on M.2_2 instead of M.2_1, what am I doing wrong?[it's a new computer, I have no OS yet.]
I have another question regarding the 5th fan of the computer, people told me that it's ok to connect it to WATER_PUMP+ but it's cycle is 3500RPM minimum, too HIGH!!! is it possible to limit it?
thank you!!!

my build if it matters anyone:
Intel i7 7700k
Asus ROG 1080gtx Strix
Maximus IX Hero
Corsair RM750x
Corsair H115i
2x16GB Corsair Dominator 3000MHZ

Hi Amit,

How are you trying to install Windows 10? Via USB? and how recent is the Windows 10 version you are trying to boot? When you start to install windows, does your M.2 show in the list of available drive locations?

Is the SAMSUNG EVO 960 defect? Is ther any way to make sure?

If you or your friends have a PC that supports M.2 drive then you can test it on it. If it shows up on other motherboard then it is fine. But if it doesn't shows up on even that other motherboard then it sure that SSD is not working.

Install windows 10 on to another drive. But leave M.2 installed on the motherboard. Once you are into OS download 960 NVMe driver from HERE and have a look if its recognised in: Control Panel>Administrative Tools> Create and format hard disk partitions.

Yes I though of that. But OP is saying that 960 EVO is not recognized at all so I doubt it will work even with driver update.

But yes there is no harm in trying.

installed windows.
still does not recognize, although i did connect it to M2_2(second slot) and I got message that M.2 device has been inserted but I still can't find it, and drivers says it has no device connected.

The 500GB 960 EVO is in the motherboards QVL. So it is definitely compatible. I had an SM951 a while back which did not show correctly in BIOS but worked fine as a bootable device.

I have some other suggestions you can try (some taken form other similar posts):

Update BIOS to 0701 if not done already.

Check M.2 slots are definitely activated in BIOS.

Clear CMOS.

Try disabling CSM.

Disconnect all other drives.

Download Samsung Magician software and perform a firmware upgrade on the 960. (If the software even recognises it).

If its recognised, Go HERE and create a bootable USB from Microsoft's website using the Media Creation tool. It will do everything for you, just sit back and wait. It creates the latest Windows 10 version for you. My 950 Pro would not boot initially form a fresh install with a earlier Windows 10 version from last year. They've now added support for booting from NVMe drives. Works great for 950 Pro.

so I've made sure, the bios is updated to 0701.
but I've noticed something, when I changed SATA mode to Intel RST blah blah blah it unlocks an option to set M2_1 socket as RAID (when the hdd is plugged to socket1), when it plugged to socket 2 it unlocks an option to set M2_2 as RAID so I guess it's kinda recognizes the hdd?

Keep Sata mode to "AHCI" unless you are using RAID, which then you would select Intel RST.

Yes, a new drive is probably best. There's nothing worst than something not working and having to RMA on a new build. Good luck with the next drive!
