Asus Maximus Ranger Vii as first motherboard for build

I'm building my first machine, but I'm not sure if the maximus VII is overkill for what I'm doing.
I'll be doing music production, some video editing and I may delve into some games if I ever get round to it. I'll be sticking a i5 4460 and 8GB of Corsair vengeance in there as well.

Good build idea? or nah

Its an excellent but dated motherbd and for what your about to spend I suggest you look at todays 12am Newegg shellshocker

For $400 you get an i7-4790k, an excellent $300 motherbd, 8gb ram, and a game. I'm not building anything currently but this is a steal at this price and I'm so tempted. LoL
