Hi,

I recently bought a build with the below configuration and have been facing a lot of issues with it:

1. In the initial days, whenever the machine started, the date was reset to year 2009. This was (I believe) resolved when I changed the BIOS battery.
2. Sometimes when I boot the system after some days, the date and time is the date and time I had shut down the machine previously. For example, If I had shutdown the machine at 3 PM on 1st June 2016, when I start the machine on the 8th of July, the machine would still show the date and time as 3 PM, 1st June 2016.
3. While playing games like Halo 3 and even while browsing normally, the sound first starts to screech and then the whole machine hangs up.
4. The latest problem is that the red lines and the 'start' button on the motherboard now lights up but it just remains in that state. The fans do not rotate, there is no error code on the motherboard, the power button the mobo doesnt work and I am unable to start the machine.

I really didnt expect so many problems and think going for the ASUS motherboard was a bad choice. Can any of you please help me with these issues?

Following is the configuration:
Intel 6600K processor
Asus Ranger VIII motherboard
8 X 2 GB GSkill 3000 RAM
500 GB Samsung EVO
Nvidia 650ti with 1 gb ram from zebronics (already had this)
2 tb wd digital hard disk (already had this)
Cooler Master 212X cooler (already had this)
21.5 inch Dell led (already had this)
500 watts VIP power supply (already had this)
Windows 7 Ultimate

Amit

Asus is actually one of the best motherboard brands out there and the issues you are having are strange.

The PSU you listed is not a brand I recognize. It sounds like it could be that causing the issue as it can provide some power but might not be able to provide enough power to kick the motherboard and CPU on.

Do you have a known good PSU you can test with?

Thanks for the quick responses. I do not have abother psu handy but since I have spent so much on the system, I don't mind a little more on a new psu. Is a 500 watt psu enough for this configuration? Any recommendations?
I also went trough a lot of related threads and see that many people are facing problems with the new Asus ranger board. Is the 2nd problem I have written also related to the psu?

Thanks,
Amit

Yes there is. Some lines are entry level and best suited for basic computing (CX/VS series) and others are designed for gaming rigs (HXi/RMx/RMi/AXi).

The lowest end Corsair line I would even consider is the RMx and that is not bad since it has gotten some stellar reviews.

The RM series costs almost double that of the VS series. Cab you suggest something from Seasonic? Have been reading a lot of good reviews about them.
Also, if my system pulls a toatl of about 340 watts, is it fine to go for a 500 or 550 watt PSU rather than going for a 650 watt PSU? Am looking at saving some on the electric bills.

Amit

Hi,

Was away frim home and have returned only for a few days.
I finally got a seasonic m12 II 620 EVO today and fixed it in the cabinet.
I am still facing the same problems.
There is pOwer in the board and even the usb devices work but the system doesn't boot. There is no qcode either?

Amit

That was a while. I forgot about this thread.

Back to troubleshooting.

SO when you say USB devices work and there is power to the board, do fans and lights come on and does the QCode start then go blank? If so then the system is powering.

Does the monitor get any output?

And does it not boot or not POST? Those are two very different things.
