Howdy, I've been putting together a build, but i'm encountering problems with the memory.
I'm trying to use an Asus Maximus VIII Extreme with a Crucial Ballistix sport (2X8GB kit) but for some reason, I'm getting incompatibility errors, it wont start up (it stops going through first-time startup procedures.)

Both Partpicker, and Crucial say the memory should be compatible with the motherboard, while the manual that came with the motherboard doesn't have the memory on the qualified vendor list. The manual being annoyingly vague on instructions doesn't help maters, as far as I know I followed the instructions for putting the tower together correctly. I have tried using the on-board MemOK memory compatibility feature, but it doesn't seem to work, (based on what the lights on the board say) it seems to try a couple times, then goes back to saying "memory initialization error, incompatible memory type or speed."

I have attempted to find information online, but to no avail, I have also tried using a single stick to launch with, but it comes up with the same error. Asking on here is my last hope before having to order a kit listed in the motherboards list.

UPDATE ONE: After waiting about half an hour, my older brother got home, i asked him if he knew anything about this, but he wasn't able to help. afterwards, i inspected the stickers on the memory's heat sinks, and a sticker on one of them almost matches one of the product numbers given in the motherboard manual. the number given on the memory is "BLS8G4D240FSA-16FARG" while the number that it almost matches in the manual is "BLS8G4D240FSA-16FAR". I also noticed in the manual that the number given for "timing" doesn't quite match the number on the memory, in the manual it says "16-16-16-40" while the sticker says "16-16-16-39", I don't know what this is for, but i though it was something of note.

this is the new one, its a 1000 watts, so i highly doubt its lacking.

it was working fine earlier when i was working on the memory compatibility issues, which is the odd thing, and it was working fine before i left the room to reply to a post of yours. i will try taking out some of the parts to see if there is something in the way/causing a short.

ok, so i have a stupid question, would using a different PCIE slot change anything? i had the GPU in the top one, its a PCIE_X16/X8_1 slot (according to the manual) and the other ones have different numbers.

i would like to see if i can figure this out before having to try benching it. i also don't have any more thermal compound for the CPU cooler, so i want to see if i can figure this out without having to remove it.

no change, it works if the 6 slot plug is used, and not the 8 slot, using both doesn't work, and using just the 8 slot doesn't work.

do i absolutely need to have both plugged in to the PSU?

hurm, i tried benching it, it worked without the GPU, but as soon as i tried it with the GPU connected, nothing.

i also tried it with the GPU both with and without memory installed, but that didn't change anything.

i might be able to try it in my brothers tower, but it might be too new for it. i also don't know if i can convince him to try it. i might also be able to try it in my old computer that this new one is an upgrade from, but i have even more doubts then trying it in my brothers tower.

EDIT: i asked him, he said he doesn't think it will work, and not right now, possibly later tonight.

ok, so as far as i can tell, the GPU was damaged due to my improper installation. i also am not able to test it in another computer. is there a way to possibly repair it, and if not, would i be able to get a replacement part?

hmm, ok...

i'm worried that it will be rejected due to it being caused by my mistake, leaving me to have to purchase another and have the broken one being nothing more then a paperweight. is there anything i can do, or should know that will help matters? also, could i continue putting the computer together using the on-board graphics, or would that be a bad idea?
