Asus maximus viii hero no wifi

Since there's no on board wifi I choose this pcie would this be compatible with my build

Yes it would work however there is a cheaper alternative solution.
You can use a USB WIFI adapter. I use the Comfast CF-300NS plugged to my USB3 port,It provides for 300Mbps and works well for me. Costs about $20 compared to $60 for the PCIe unit.
I assume you have a wifi capable router.?

+1, I like the USB adapters also, you can get interference from all the power cords behind a system case with those antennas
