so i just cleaned an old office system using compressed air from a compressor:
an asus mobo
core 2 duo cpu
2gb ddr2 ram
160 gb seagate barracuda with vital information.
cd/dvd rw drive
power choice generic psu
running on windows xp
didn't touch any cabling inside, just attached new fans to molex 4 pins.

i get the Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device error

i tried plugging the hdd sata into other sata ports on the mobo still not showing on bios although the cd/dvd rw drive is detected.
idk why this happens

could the psu be the problem since the system has a generic power supply? but it still powers the cd/dvd rw drive

sometime with old drives if they cool down they can stick. see if the old drive still spinning. if the drive was lound before you turned it off is may be stuck. light tap may unfrese the drive as a last backup. i would pull the drive and use a usb backup cable see if on another pc the drive shows up where you can back the data off. as you cleaned the old pc the cmos battery may have gone bad and lost all of the settings. try replacing the battery and reset all of the settings.
