Hi,
Recently my old GDDR2 motherboard died out on me and so I had to upgrade everything for a new motherboard. I got an ASUS A78M-A motherboard and an AMD A8 7600 APU to go with it and threw in some standard G.SKILL Ripjaws X series 1600 2×2 GB RAM for a total of 4 GB RAM. For my GPU I used the same one I used in the old system an ATI Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 which is probably ancient.
I need help understanding how to optimize everything. Drivers for anything just give me blue screens in Windows 8.1. First, when I tried to install the A78M-A's drivers using the disk, it blue screened out and I had to system restore to get things working again. Second, when I try to install AMD's latest drivers from here: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows+8.1+-+64 I get this: http://imgur.com/CJsjSAi blue screen. So I need a little help. What should I actually download for my APU and GPU drivers? What should I do about the motherboard drivers, and also the BIOS (if anything). I already re-installed Windows when I put all the parts in but is it needed again?
Also if there is anything i should do in terms of optimization, specifically using the Radeon R7 series graphics in the APU with the GPU or anything I need to do to actually use it properly.
One last thing, I know for a fact I'll be getting a SAPPHIRE DUAL-X Radeon R9 280 Gaphics card for Christmas, so how should I go about installing the new card. Also is it possible to use both the card I have after I get the new one or should I even bother given how old the one I currently have is. If you also know anything about using AMD Crossfire with the APU and the new R9 that would be nice. I have a Corsair CX600M PSU if your worried about power.
Thanks for any help I'm really just a newb and this will be my first real PC that I actually care about and I'm look to the experts for help.
