Hi,
I have a P4S533 and currently I'm running a northwood 1.8GA and I'm running it at 533 so I have a 2.4GHZ.
It's time to upgrade.
Do I get a 3.06GHZ/533MHZ or do I go with the cheaper 2.4GHZ/400MHZ and I can run it at 533 thus geting a 3.19GHZ proc.
What do you guys think?

Neither. You're spending a lot of money on the 3.06 for a medium performance gain. And the 2.4A is NOT likely to reach 3GHz, let along 3.2.

I'd try overclocking your board a bit more. My friend's system (same board) will run reliably at 150MHz FSB using PC2700 (DDR333) synchronously (DDR300 speed).

Hi,
I didn't know that it wouldn't support the 3ghz.
I thought the manual hinted at it. I'll have to reread it. what's the best place to verify? I can't find much help in that area on the asus site.

Look for bios upgrades for the 3.06. There were at least 2 versions of this board, and it's possible one of them would run the 3.06. If your board has the sis 645dx chipset like mine did, I don't believe it will support hyperthreading. Now's a good time to upgrade the mobo anyway. Newegg has some refurbs available for less than $50, or you can find a less expensive new board with sis or via chipsets for about $70.
