I wanted to know the impact, if any, a clean install of Windows 2k Server will have on a un-modified Asus P5A motherboard.

Is a Bios update needed, or even recommended?

thanks

I installed Win2k workstation on my Asus P5a and all seemed well except it wouldn't find my floppy drive. Beyond that the sound video and Nic cards all went in real easy once I downloaded the proper drivers.

Thanks. Were you using the onboard audio or a 3rd party card.

So far, it seems that most of my 3rd party cards are supported as is.

It goes on real easy, but you are likely to have some problems problems if you have a TNT card because the Nvidia drivers included with Win2k don't work. The install will go smoothly and then, when the desktop is about to appear, everything goes blank and locks up. The trick is to have the latest TNT drivers on the hard drive before you install. Reboot into safe mode and install the drivers. Even then you may have stability problems. There are some special ali patches that you should get from the ali website.

The problems with the TNT were so bad, I finally gave up and got a Diamond Savage 4 card and that pretty much solved the problems. Very solid now, except for the occasional lockup caused by Norton Internet Security.
