Asus P5B-Deluxe needs a specific PSU?

Does this board need a PSU with a 6 or 8 pin plug along with the 24-pin main plug? my Antec Neopower 480 has a 24-pin plug but only an additional 4-pin plug. I'm having problems (see other post). Could that be the problem? Thanks!

No. It doesn't require a specific PSU.

I've run this same board with both the 4-pin and 8-pin EPS connectors (not at the same time, of course) without any problem.

I'm using the Antec NeoHE 550 PSU.

I think I've stumbled onto a thread that states that the Corsair PC6400 C5 has BIG problems with this board without VERY specific timings. I'll try the timings and see if they work. IF not, I'll go with the C4 RAM.

Turned out to definitely be a bad stick 'o ram. put some different ram in and no problems since. On to RMA!

Unless you are talking about my posts about having trouble with the P5B-E plus and corsair twin2x, then i would very much like a link to that post. Since I cant get my board to post with cosair ram (p5b-e plus, and twin2x the 5-5-5-12 ones).

I got a ASUS P5B Deluxe Wifi with Corsaix XMS6400 C5 (2x1gb) - works fine, but if im workin with FSB1600 and DDR 800 settings it tends to default the timings to 4-4-4-12 in which 1.9v seems fixes things

The XMS6400 C5 have a default voltage of 1.9v anyway. But i dont undestand the FSB of 1600? if you set your Ram to 800Mhz and you CL to 4, what do you run FSB?

getting your ram to run 800Mhz with a latencyof 4 on the default voltage is pretty good. My ram xms2 6400 (paper) is rated at 5-5-5-12, so i would love to know how you did that

FSB1600 (400x4) with the 533 ratio (1:1), at first i couldnt figure why my oc was unstable past 3.3ghz (9x cpu multi) but when i set the mem to 1.9v it worked better so i checked the ram at it was at fault, cpuz reported it running at 800 C4-4-4-12, atm i got it manually set a 5-5-5-12, no diffrence in stability so.

I definitely had a bad stick. Sometimes, with just that stick in, I wouldn't even post while the other stick didn't give me any problems. The bad stick would lock-up MemTest or reboot my system. I just put in two sticks of 667Mhz PNY and have been rock-solid with two instances of Prime95 for 14 hours. Pretty sure it was a bad stick. Even the Corsair RamGuy thinks so (called him). Anyway, if you can't get your board to post with your ram, try one stick at a time and see if it'll post/boot with just one or the other. You might have one bad stick like me or simply two bad sticks. I RMA'd my C5 sticks and ordered C4 sticks. Call Corsair's # on their website. The forum that I got my info from is on their own site so check out www.corsair.com and you should find the answers you're looking for. I'm sure they'll RMA your sticks if they need to.
