Ok so i recently i got some Kingston KVR800D2N6/2G (DDR2 2GB 800Mhz) and put them in my Asus P5B. Well they work but there not working at there full rated speed. for some reason i can only ever get 332.8 MHz.... I've tried everything i can think of but this boards bios is weird. It has Ram clock setting but they go from 677MHz to 833MHz which over clocks the ram and causes issues. I have no idea what to do anymore. Im running the lastest Bios for this board and the memory well works as im using it. it just wont run at its rated speed.

Let me explain, its a bit confusing but hear me out.

DDR stands for Double Data Rate memory.

What that means is when the memory is working it is working at reading and writing data at the exact same time.

So for example.

It is always times 2 of the default value of the speed you set in your bios.

So for example 800Mhz divided by two equals a setting for the initial memory speed in your bios settings to the 400Mhz option.

400Mhz for read, 400Mhz for write. times that by two and the total is the 800Mhz specification listed on the memory stick.

So if you set in the bios the initial speed of 400Mhz the memory is working at its full speed.

The reading you are seeing is for one of the Data rate channels of the memory.
If you change the setting in the bios to 400Mhz.
The frequency shown in cpu z must be times by 2 to get the overall speed.

For example 332Mhz as it stands reported by cpu z.
Means you have currently in the bios 667 Mhz selected.
Because if you divide it by two it equals the 333Mhz speed you see in cpuz.

So it`s either 400Mhz you select. or 800Mhz.

One of the two options will yeild a result of 400mhz showing in cpu z.

I know about the DDR Stands for Double data rate. as i've read a post were you had already posted that. I've tried to but the memory into 400Mhz mode but i cant seem to find it in the BIOS... Theres no option, the only options are 667Mhz and 833MHz which overclocks the Memory and causes issues within windows.

I guess i have the same issue. I have Asus P5B too. After i removed e6700 and installed xeon e5450, 800mhz option is gone from bios. Just 667, 833 and higher settings. My rams are DDR2 800mhz so when i set 833 manually system fails. When i set auto frequency i guess it makes 833 itself so i get random reboots. I dont know what to do i'd be glad to know about what you did, solved it or not
