OK! Finally no errors and prime95 finished!

9x395 @ 3.55GHz

Now, lets make this puppy cooler if we can. 77/77/71/71 MAX during Small FFT.

Yup. Now you have a good staging area. What you need to do next is to re set HWMonitor, so it record new high values. Then get to work running your comp through your most powerful applications.

Encoding, gaming, rendering. Crysis is a good test to see where your temps will end up when not testing, and only doing what you normally do on the comp!

Once you see were they are without the artificial testing like prime, you can decide upon lowering the speed of the chip, so that you can lower the VCore. And therefor lower the temps.

LOL, much better, huh?

Now that you know what to play with, you can just toy around with minor settings and changes to get used to your boards features.

You'll find more advanced tricks.

What I do is just google for whatever the field is called, and then read up on what it does, and then you know!

Glad I helped, kinda sorta!

Yeah, I cheat. I have a maximus formula that I can target a loaded VCore with no VDroop. And the drop is always .0250

So if I set it in the Bios to 1.5250 I'll get 1.5000 in windows, and I have no VDroop, so its 1.5008 Loaded. Now that means I get to automatically reach whatever VCore I want! And it just takes me 1 second to know what my loaded VCore will be. To easy!

And since I have no droop, I dont waste Bios VCore notches!!

I think i'll book mark this thread and try it later on my CPU...
identical CPU and MB...
maxed it out at 3.9ghz
3.95 just for the screenshot... which realy means nothing...

::Chuckles.:: Yeah, but screen shots and prime stable are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy different! In case you didnt know!

You have a 1.3000 VID Q6600?

--Lupi

Mine is 1.270v
from Coretemp right?
edit:
I was using OCCTP and it was stable at 3.8

this is my dev machine... so run it at 3.6ghz.
if it crashes... i want it to be because of a bug i can fix and not because somewhere a bit got flipped and gave the wrong result

I think I'm finally getting the hang of this! I have lowerd my VCore Bios a few and upped my DRAM Freq as well! Hopefully when I get the chance, lapping will bring lower temps!

Also, my brother is getting a Q6600 and he isn't planning to OC so if his VID is lower I'm gonna switch them!

Now, should I OC my Video Card? I have an EVGA 8800 GTS 512 Knock Out Edition (Already OCed). Is it worth the extra heat that will be produced by the VC?

Thats up to you. The factory OC versions are still using a saftey margin, so you can OC them farther. Its pretty simple to do, and test, alot easier than a processor, and yes, the lower the VID, the better, so get the best one! Make him get an OEM chip!!!

An oem chip MAY have a better VID. But is has appeared that all new box VIDs are 1.3000 and higher. That blows.

My OEM ones have been decent.
