Asus P7P55D-E LX not booting after BIOS update

Hi there! Hoping someone can help me!

I recently installed an SSD in my machine, and have been tweaking things to get it running a little faster. I noticed that my mobo was using a very old BIOS version, from back when I bought it. Never thought of flashing it since it was working fine. Anyway, decided to flash it to see if that helped with the SSD being a little slow. I avoided anything via Windows & loaded the latest BIOS from the Asus website onto a USB flash drive, went into the BIOS, went to the EZ flash upate, did it via that, it told me everything was fine & said it would reset in 5 seconds. 5 seconds later it reset, and it's not been working since.

The machine does power up, fans spin, lights come on, I just get no display & what I assume is no Windows loading since I don't get any sounds etc to indicate so. I've tested it with each RAM stick in by itself, I've gone through the CMOS resetting (although no way to tell if it did anything), I've removed all components & put them back in again, tested the GPU in another computer to make sure it worked, put an old GPU in here too... nothing...

Does anyone have any ideas, or anything else I can do to test? I really want to avoid having to order a new motherboard since this one *was* working fine, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
A solution would be replacing the board's BIOS chip (it's on socket). You can order one from ebay, or if in US, from ASUS estore. It's about 17-20$.

Hi alexoiu, thanks for that. Just searched on eBay & there's one available in the UK for a pretty decent price, so I'll keep that in mind if I can't sort it out tonight. Would be worth trying before resorting to a new motherboard.

Hello... did you get an option to back up your old BIO's? if ya did re-load the back up.

Hi IronSounds. No, I got no option for this, so it just flashed then reset. It did pop up & say everything went well, but hasn't worked since. I'm getting nothing on my screen right now, as if the DVI cable wasn't even plugged into the monitor - it is obviously though!

So even if I had a backup of the old BIOS version, I wouldn't be able to do anything since I'm not even sure if the computer's getting past spinning things up & turning lights on.

Does anyone know what would happen if the BIOS is dead? Should the display at least come on still? Or not?

Yes but I can't re-flash because nothing comes up on the screen & the flash utility is in the BIOS, which isn't working...

How would I do that without a signal going to my monitor? 😛

I'm just looking to see if there's anything I can do to get the computer up & running without resorting to buying a new motherboard. The BIOS replacement seems like my only plan right now, although I'd like to know if I could find out whether it is actually the BIOS at fault before I buy it.

Can't really go for the motherboard option since it's an old 1156 & I understand they're not really made now, so I'd need a new mobo + CPU which is expensive.

Hello... you can install your BIO's without a monitor... by making a bootable media with a flashing program and ROM/BIOS file... and a .bat file to start the process.

Ah I didn't know that. Thought I'd need to be able to see something to get it to work. But wouldn't the BIOS need to work in order to recognise the bootable media? To be honest it's probably not worth my time anyway, considering the cost of the BIOS chip. I'm not hugely technical so I think I'd use many hours getting that to work (not not work) lol. I mainly just want to find out whether it's actually the BIOS that's dead or if it's something else.

page 3 and 4 talk about a couple ways... I have done it a few times in my life using a floppy drive... haven't had a chance to with USB or CD media... but the point is there is a fail safe in some cases... and worth a try if you are considering spending $ towards the problem at this point.

The trick is to get the flash program /switches to start run and finish the Flash without your keyboard input... plug in the media and power up and power off is all that is required.

Something else has happened now though. I switched the computer on & went to make some food, just to see what happened. When I came back my keyboard was lit up & when I unplugged something from the USB I got a USB unplug noise. I tried a keyboard shut down to see if Windows was loaded & got the shut down sound, then it switched off.

Apparently the computer is now working, although I still have no display whatsoever.

Anyone know whether flashing the BIOS can stop the display working? I've tried 2 graphics cards & neither of them are working. Don't have any other way to test the machine. Any ideas??
