Hey guys,

Literally loosing my mind over this one.
Recently made a new build, using an Asus P9X79 LE motherboard, Intel i7 processor and an MSI GTX 780.

I literally cant get any sound coming out of my headphones, at the moment i have no speakers, but Headphones should still work really. ive got the latest Realtek HD audio driver 6.0.1.7023 and my audio codec is ALC892. For some reason the only option i have when i have the audio settings in the realtek audio manager to HD and not AC97 is an optical output. when set to AC97 i jet speakers appearing, but still no audio, the levels move but still no audio.

For some reason in my sound device manager, i get 4 audio outputs from the GTX 780 as HDMI audio output 0 to 3 all saying not plugged in.

I hope you can help i just want to enjoy my new pc 🙁

Thanks so much

Connect your head phones to the speaker jack on the rear I/O panel of the motherboard, usually the light green 3.5mm jack. (this will work fine with headphones too...)

REASON: eliminates case wiring and connectors to isolate the issue....

Post back your results...

You can just use Win 7/8 audio drivers....

Goto Control Panel --> Sound should see a list of devices, speakers & headphones should be in the list... Ideally, they will go Green when you plug-in the headphones....
- you can select, right click, and "Disable" all of the unused things; HDMI audio port 0--3, Digital Audio S/PDIF, and Digital Audio HDMI (be sure "Show Disconnected Devices" is check to see the FULL LIST...)

Also, in system tray (lower right corner of desktop) open the sound mixer, assure none of the devices are X out or muted..

so i tried your suggestion and well i literally dont have them options!

There are no X on anything in the mixer. The levels even move when audio is playing i get no play back at all.

Ive had to change the audio option from HD to AC97 because otherwise headphone and speaker options wont even appear! Any other ideas on what to do? getting to frustrated with this.

1). Un-plug the front panle cable from the audio connector on your motherboard...
2). Plug your headphones into the Green connector on the rear I/O panel on the motherboard....
3). Goto Control Panel --> Programs and Features. Find the RealTek Audio items, select them and UNINSTALL them
4). Reboot the computer
5). Goto Control Panel --> Sound (you should see all HD Audio listing from my earlier Post.)
NOTE: be sure to check "Show Disconnected Devices" is check to see the FULL LIST...)

POST try to play a sound or CD .... Post results.

BTW, any other way for you to post a screen shot? (your link wants me to login..... so I can't see anything)

Ok, this is good, at least your seeing the Speaker & Headphones as your should (I can see your most recent screen shot!!)

Now, I just need to think of a Next Step for you..... AH there it is...

You have the Digital Audio (HDMI) as the DEFAULT. Select the Speakers, right-click, and set them as the "Default" device..... (ideally JUST plugging them in would cause them to be recognized, let's see if we can force it....)
